glove box latch

1999 s320 LWB: Is there a latch on the inside of the door? I believe the button for the glove box is not working ( the button for the glasses box works ). The glove box door is stuck. Both sides of the door can be pried, but not the middle. Can I jimmy the latch somehow, instead of disassembling the unit or banging it to death to get it open? I don't use the box; I don't want to fix it....................just get my stuff out and close it back, forever.

Thanks

Smile glove box stuck...... finally got it opened

Sides could be opened a tiny bit. Center was tight. I used my wife's gardening tool, a weeder, with a long stem and 2 prongs at the end. I gently pried the center going down slowly, AND it OPENED. No damage to the door.I emptied the contents, closed it back up, tried to open to no avail...............but I don't care because I don't need it, won't use it ! Thanks for all your suggestions. My black beauty lives on !

Had the same problem. Had my wife depress the button fully while I banged on the door. It opened. There is a cable from the button to the center latch. It needs adjusting.

Did you adjust the cable?

Burgca, no I didn't. I found out that the glove box was never used and was just "stiff". It has been opening fairly easily since although I really don't have anything in there of importance. Registration and the other papers are in the center console which is easier to get to.

Try pushing upward on the glove box door and then depressing the latch release button. This may relieve the strain sufficiently to allow the cable to release the latch when you depress the button

I read somewhere that the cable is accessible on the engine side of the glove box. I think one would have to remove the cover over the filter/blower area first.
