My trunk will not latch. When I close it there is no sound or movement. If I use a screw driver I can push the lever on the body of the car and it will stay in the locked position and the lever on the trunk lid will recess, but it won't latch if I just close the trunk. This is on my 1997 s500 coupe W140.

Sounds like it might be an alignment issue. Any way to shift the latch?

I've taken it out and realigned it, still nothing. There's no sound at all. When I press the catch down with the screw driver the pump kicks in and the lever on the trunk retracts as it should.

Thanks AZN, it turned out to be alignment of the latch and the fact that contact was not being made with that small metal plate in the lock on the body of the car and the switch behind it. My next project was going to be the seat belt extender as it hasn't worked for a few months. Miraculously the drivers side started working again after I had messed with the wiring in the trunk,(reset buttons etc). Any suggestions about getting the passenger side to work properly?
