These cars has high AC evaporator failure, put some dye in to check for leak. If dye is find in the condenser drain water. You have to remove the dash to do the repair.

Got it filled up, on the way home i thought im going to freeze my AC was working so good. Next day doesnt work again, blowes warm air and compressor doesnt kick in. I am almost positive that compressor is good, theres a leak or some kind of sensor is bad, anyone can help?

Hey, I got the car it had few problems, like antena was broken mirrors were broken 3rd brake light was giving the error light, check engine light was on but i found the problem 2 vacuum lines were broken of and ac wasn't working. Got all of that fixed and ac fixed, now love the car i enjoy it a lot.
If you know how to work on ur own car then get it if not then maybe you shouldnt because they r very expensive to fix i guess.
Good luck and let me know what you get

1997 CL600
steelers6nj, I've owned 5 Benzes since I got "hooked". However, they are not for the faint hearted. I would plan on $2500 a year for upkeep and this doesn't include tires. My current car is a '97 CL600, the top of the heap!. Magnificent, powerful and every chance I get I drive it. The downside?, the gas mileage is not good and it is a ***** to work on since the engine fills up the engine compartment. And Igor, this applies to you also. There is a plastic "tee" fitting on the back of the engine with three(?) hoses coming out. If this fitting breaks you will lose all of your coolant in about 30 seconds. That is job #1 on any of the 140's when you get it. The 119 engine is fairly easy to replace this fitting. The 120 engine is a *****! And in case you wonder, a replacement 120 engine from Mercedes is about $55K!!

To tell you the truth i have 2011 E350 4matic and gas milage on my S500 is about the same or even better.
Thanks for heads up on the tee fitting. Would to tell me more about it and where its located, maybe ill do mine before it bust. Thanks
My opinion is, you can get a good price on a older benz same as you would buy a Kia or Hundai they all come with problems but MB is beautiful and drives super nice especially the MB that was made before 2000

If you get a good deal go for it, you will love it!!! S600 is better but im sure it burns more gas and its more expensive to fix too.

bad evaporator...most of these vehicle already have dye in the AC system, refill the system, and look for yellow dye in the condense water.

I didn't get it diagnosed, i just went ahead and replaced the compressor drier and expansion valve, But to check if its not evaporator you have to add dye in to ur system and see when water that drips from evaporator mixed with dye then you know its ur Evaporator
I hope that helps
