check engine light

I was stopped and had to floor the gas pedal to enter the freeway. Check Engine Light IMMEDIATELY came on. Car rode rough and idled very poorly when stopped at a number of signal lights. I did make it home. Question: Do I have to have it towed to my mechanic or can I try to drive it there?

Thanks
Bill

Beebsie similar happened to my car with the M119 engine, you can clear the codes and drive it normally but no hard acceleration to the mechanic. Source of my issue was a bad coil which I replaced, it is an easy diy job. Good luck

Sounds like it went into "limp home". What did the codes say?

Thanks. I did take it easy and made it to my mechanic. He replaced the ignition coil and cam shaft sensor, and I am back on the road!
