1995 S 420 running issues

Hello Helpers,
I am new here and this car has issues. I believe that since it has been sitting for a while that the gas is bad. It has been running in the driveway several times. Took it down the street and it began to sputter and stalled, would not restart until it sat for 10 minuets and drove it the block home without issues. A week or so I had the same problem and the car limped home. Any ideas of where to start?
Other issues are:
Various electrical problems occur intermittently, radio stopped playing, MPG guage was working, now it is buried at 40 mpg, trunk opening handle pops out for no reason. front signal/running lights work on one side only but varies which side and causes the dash "bulb out" light to come on. windows close part way then open or stop in place, etc.
Looks like I have a lot of work to do.

How long was the car sitting before you started the car? Old gasoline could do major damage to the car. Have you validated the voltage of the battery? This could be a source of your electrical gremlins, or it could be more costly as Pre 96 W140 models have a known wiring harness issue that can lead to electrical issues if this wasn't replaced.

I agree you have work to do hopefully the cost of repairs doesn't exceed your purchase price. A pre purchase inspection is a must for any Mercedes to properly budget for repairs.

Good luck!!

Ok, the battery is new and rated for this vehicle. I looked at the wire harness and they appear to be ok, not sure where to look for the fuel injectors to check those wires. Is there any way to check the EZL to see if it is malfunctioning?

I checked the wires in the door panel they appeared good. No sign of water or water damage under the rear bench, rear carpets or in the doors.
Do you know where the ground points are?
Would it make sense to have a diagnostic? would that show a bad sensor, relay or ezl?
CEL is NOT on.

Ok well today I discovered that the crankcase sensor had already been replaced, I thought the wire looked newer but when i removed the air cleaner saw that the person who replaced it just left it dangling, one end melting on the manifold. I did a quick mulitmeter test for resistance and the new cable checked out to be functional.

I performed a fuel pressure test today. Results were good with fuel pressure 48 psi cold and off, 49-50 at idol and no change when the engine reached operating temp of 82 deg C.

here is where I am now. car will idol well in the driveway for 30-45 mins until the temp gets to 82C then it begins to sputter.

wondering where to go from here?

Check your Caps and rotors.
Mine was doing the same thing when running for 15 to 20 mins then sputters and dies.
Only will restart and run normal again after a couple of hours.Of course it would repeat after the above mention time.
