Replaced the suspension accumulators in back, still have soooooooo much clunking back there! What else do I need to replace?! plastic wishbone looking thing broke twice, put a metal one in, hasn't broke yet.

Hard to say, I replaced a rear bushing on my W210 that was completely worn through, caused all kids of clunking and drifting but I didn't notice it upon visual inspection, only when I was in there taking it apart -

rear clunking

I'm having the SLS shocks replaced on my '95 S500 this week, so I'll let you know if it eliminates the awful, loud, and harsh thuds I've been listening to (and feeling) for months . . . installing new Sachs-Boge shocks (OEM).

S500

Installed the new Sachs-Boge rear SLS shocks and ALL the unpleasant, harsh thuds, jolting on bumps is gone; it rides smooth as greased glass now. Yes, it cost a lot, but it's worth it to me. These are expensive cars to keep up, but that's the nature of the beast.

shocks

I thought it was those "strange-looking" upper shock mounts that went bad. Am I wrong?

I had clunks with my 500E with self-leveling suspension and it was the shock "stems" that had lateral play. Just replaced those and all was good.
