Question MB SEC 560 Question ?

I am not sure if this is the correct forum for the MB 560 SEC but I am going to ask the question anyway

I will be purchasing a MB 560 SEC Coupe soon and I have tried to find some info on this car online with little sucsess....

Can anybody tell me how many bhp this car has and what top speed it is likely to reach......

There's no W126 forum on this site (unfortunately), so this is the most relevant you are going to get. The 560SEC and 560SEL share the same engine:

5.6-liter V8
238 hp @ 4800 rpm
287 lb-ft @ 3500 rpm

I do not know top speed, but most high-end German cars are limited to either around 130 mph or precisely at 155. I'm guessing 155 for the coupes.

For other specs, see M-B's official website (15-year model overview) here:
http://www.mbusa.com/brand/container...24568&menu=2_3

The above link should take you straight to the 560SEC info.

Here's a great site with all kinds of pictures of Mercedes:
http://www.dhc.net/~pmhack/mercedes/MODELS.HTM

Here are some pictures on that site of nice SEC's (some really really nice!!)
http://www.dhc.net/~pmhack/mercedes/560SEC88.HTM
http://www.dhc.net/~pmhack/mercedes/560sec89.htm
http://www.dhc.net/~pmhack/mercedes/560sec881.HTM

This one's breathtaking:
http://www.dhc.net/~pmhack/mercedes/560sec891.HTM

Also try www.motorcities.com. On the left menu, scroll down to 'Click for More', and then click on 'Cars'. When the long, long list appears, scroll down to Mercedes, and you'll find a few pictures of more 560SEC's.

I really love the S-Class coupes for their combination of power, speed, dignified but sleek styling, safety/security, imposing presence and prestige. The best of all automotive worlds. W140's (i.e. '99 CL600 etc.) are my favorites, but the W126's (560SEC's) may well be the most elegant. Good luck with your purchase, and enjoy the car!!

Also sorry to hear about that, as I was looking forward to seeing pics

Since you're in the U.K., I have no idea what an XJ6 3.2 is. Over here, we have the XJ6, XJ6 L, Vanden Plas, and XJR, and this was up to 1997 before the XJ8 models were introduced. Is yours from the most recent generation?

I'd love to see pictures of the Jaguar if you want to post them--I think everyone can agree that XJ's are also gorgeous cars!

Looks great! Seems like a great alternative to that 560SEC. Here Americans have a love/hate attitude toward Jags--I don't know why. I have some friends who really hate them, again something I can't understand. Even as a German car fanatic, it's been my dream for a long time to own a Jag at some point.

Currently I have a 300,000-mile '86 BMW 528e (good for about 110 mph). Unfortunately it's being very problematic right now and I plan to sell it soon. I'd be interested to see how the Jaguar holds up (although as a poor student I'd never be able to maintain one).

Enjoy it!!
