Code P0410 and Hesitation
Hey Guys, Hope someone can assist. 2001. S430
I had mutiple error codes and some hesitation. I changed the MAF and I am down to one error code. P0410. Now I have major hesitation. I was driving home last night. I paid the toll and as I tried to take off it felt like I was going to stall. Even on the highway feels very sluggish. I searched the forums and really didnt find anything. Would the air pump not functioning cause hesitation?
thanks everyone

The only fault code I could find regarding P0410 is, "secondary air injection system malfunction." No idea what it means, but hope it helps.

Yep. Exactly. Its getting worse. Have you changed your MAF?
I looked at all the hoses and found one that wasnt connected. The code went away and I can hear the Air Pump but its still sluggish. Now I am getting MAF code. Which I changed yesterday. But I bought it from Ebay which I dont think was a good idea. Thats what you get for $100

there are atleast 3 items in the secondary air injection system that I would look out for.
1. the air pump
2. air injection switchover valve
3. the relay for the air pump
Check for any loose or worn through vacuum lines around the air pump and then check the fuse and relay. To check to see if the air pump is running correctly, you can jump the relay pins and disconnect the rubber hose coming from the air pump. If you feel a great deal of air being pushed from the air pump, then it is working correctly and I would suggest something else in the system. Just don't forget to reconnect the hose at the air pump and remember which connector in the fuse box to plug the relay back into.

Actually you would be surprised.
I test drove an older 2002 SL600 and both front catalysts were melted to the point of it causing too much back pressure to the engine when running or accelerating. You could tell that the car didn't have as good of acceleration as what it should have. After replacing both sides of the catalysts the car ran like a top and would even break the rear tires loose under acceleration from a rolling start again.
