Anyone Have This Stuck In Park Problem?

Does anyone want to attempt this for me? I'm in NYC.
I had this issue one year ago and suddenly it went away until last week. I parked my car and then 10 minutes later couldn't get it out of park.
My options are replace it for a $1000 or drive with a sledge hammer.
I'll pay you for your time to take out the shifter box and remove the plastic part.
Thanks

Too late -.-
been banging with that..no luck though! The tow truck guy got it on his first try though... it looked intact when the car was in D..I was able to see it thorugh a little opening.
I don't want to do any further damage..
How would I know if it's the brake lamp switch because when I step on it..it lights up..the STAR didn't show any malfunctions either..
a bit strange though when i step on the brake I don't hear the SHIFTER release...I remember there should always be a sort of click.

If the tow truck guy hit it and released it then it's probably The plastic piece in the shifter. You have to pull up on the shifter while you bang it rearward towards D
Just remove the piece completely , if you are a responsible adult you don't need a shifter interlock . Just don't let any kids play with your shifter

I'm looking to remove this piece and not replace it, as a few others have suggested. My car is not currently stuck in Park but did get stuck briefly yesterday.
My question is, one of the comments on the video by Rolandesq mentions that someone removed the piece with pointy nose pliers without dis-assembling the box or in fact even removing the box. Is this possible?
thanks

Car stuck in Park
New to this thread. Unfortunately, I am shamefully not to good with taking things apart. My 2003 S550 has been stuck in Park for two days now. I am in the Houston Texas area and would like to know if there is anyone who would be able to refer me to a good mechanic. My mechanic is telling me it's not the plastic part but some electronic system in the car. I've looked and all the problem everyone else is having is EXACTLY like mine. I've tried the hammer and rag method, no go! Ive try shifting it numerous time, no go! In the past this has worked. Guess the piece is finally broken. Yup, that's what I'm going through now. 😧😤 Frustrating to say the least... I would greatly appreciate it. You can text me the referral at 713 364 6144.

I removed my plastic clip today, not a job I particularly enjoyed! I followed the video from Rolandesq and the written instructions from Kerno on Benzworld. I found his written instructions vital when it came to final removal of the clip.
For those who are about to do it, bits that gave me grief included;
1. I struggled to remove my Keyless gearknob. The bottom collar was stuck on and needed WD40 and duct tape for grip!
2. The console was a struggle to remove, my lever wasn't stuck in P so if yours is then this would be harder still.
3. Getting the gear connector off the bottom of the lever was a pain. Mine was tight and I was never sure if my clip was still holding it. I removed mine from inside the car.
4. Once I had the box out I could work in the lounge and that's much nicer when your garage is cold! I didn't figure on not being able to get two of the smallest torx bolts out and wasted at least 1/2 an hour on those and ended up cutting slot heads in them with a Dremel to so that I could remove them with a flat screwdriver.
5. On re-assembly I too made the mistake of installing the centre console only to find that the last two connectors (for the airbag light and gear selection light) had slid back out of my reach, so out came the console again.
6. I had loads of connections at the rear of my console (rear TV etc) and it was a struggle to squeeze those connectors back for the cover to pop over.
I was lousy and probably spent six hours all up.

So i have a 2006 S55 and ive noticed when i try putting my car into park i noticed like a small grove or something i was passing. Like it was a lil nick i had to pass right before i put it in park.
I guess the best way to describe it is if you ever drove a manual car and you grinded gears really good lol and then you had like small issues putting it into 3rd. Thats exactly how it feels So i had to force it into park by just man handling it. It started getting worst and i was afraid i wouldnt be able to put it in park.
So i restarted the car and it went away and the issue is really intermittent. Today when i got to work it went into park with no issues at all. Im scared this is really going to screw me over. Could it be that plastic piece everyone keeps referring to ? is it the brake solenoid ? Something in the tranny ?
Any advice is much appreciated. Ive skimmed the thread btw

I've not heard of that before. I doubt its the brake solenoid switch as that would prevent you from getting it out of park in the first place wouldn't it?
Inside the gearshift housing, there is a cam type arrangement as you select gears so maybe something as worn or broken. The plastic piece by itself doesn't touch the cam surface, just allows the shifter to move based on a state.
It might be time to replace the plastic piece anyway, take a closer look, and also replace the small rubber bushings of the rod links from the selector to the transmission. The are cheap and the remove any slop in the linkages.

Maybe I misunderstood. Kyosuke said "i have a 2006 S55 and ive noticed when i try putting my car into park" which is what I have not heard before. Getting out of park - yeah agree with the mallet suggestion.

Mine started getting goofy like that four weeks before failure. I had a local indy do the work. They didn't like the plastic repair kit that I bought and used a metal repair kit. It was a ***** getting my car out of my garage with a tow truck...

Update on this:
Earlier in this thread on member wrote that after removing the plastic piece he would experience his tip-tronic not working or intermittently crashing.
This has begun to happen to me, I can be at a redlight and when its time to hit the gas- all of sudden its like the car is starting in 4th gear or the opposite it stuck in first and playing with the tip-tronic or trying to shift it to 1-4 is GONE.
The only fix is to restart the car and its back to NORMAL...what could it be?
All my connections are fine.
CHECK ENGINE comes on during this glitch!
Anyone with a resolution?
Thanks

I've never heard of the brake shift latch causing any shifting problems.
There are at least two different sizes of the latch, with no way to tell which you have until you take the shifter apart. One of the vendors offers both sizes in a kit for close to the price for one - that would be my first choice.

Yes!
When your car starts doing something new, one of the first questions that you should ask yourself is, "What is the last thing that I dd?"

Stuck in Park. happened 2 me twice.
1st time, i hit the shifter repeatedly fast, as u can see on some utube vids. this worked, from then on, put the car in Neutral and park brake. But the key wont come out, so i dismantled the key release cable so i could push this knob with another hand, while i got out the key. Not S class worthy, but if ur low on cash, this is a solution.
2nd time, my beautifull girlfriend forgets this and putted in park. This time it wouldnt come out, how many times i hitted it. So i prayed to God almighty, to help me open this thing.
I opened it, but i didnt replace this plastic broke lever, it fell apart. I cut it with a scissor and i placed the unit in the car
NO MORE STUCK IN PARK EVER
there is one downside to this; u can change gear lever at all times, not just without the pedals. So no kids allowed in my Benz

Well, my car has been getting more and more finicky about getting in and out of park, so I think I'm going to have to replace this piece before it breaks. Now, the figure out what's different in taking it apart in a CL...

My plan is to take it apart, remove the offending piece, then order the properly sized one, and reassemble. I can have the car sit a few days while I wait for parts, but if not, I can always reassemble and redisassemble. The missing piece shouldn't cause issue.

Another possibility - one of the eBay vendors did sell both sizes of the aluminum levers for about the same cost as others sell one size. It might be easier to remember how to reassemble the shifter if you are doing it the same day...
