Keyless Go

I have Keyless Go and the key is the same as any Benz. It is the credit card sized smart key that enables keyless go. I have two standard keys and two credit card shaped keys that allow keyless go and lock/unlock to function.

You cannot tell the difference between keyless go key and standard key by looking at it. However, Keyless go key has 1 battery and standard keys has 2 batteries.

2005 S500 4MATIC
I have a 2005 S500 4MATIC, but it doesn't have the Keyless Go equipped. Although the manual talked about Keyless Go, and there's supposed to be a button on top of the Gear Selector Lever (page 34 of the manual). However my car doesn't have that button at all.

Was this an option at the time or did it come as a standard feature?

You don't need the key for the keyless go system to work. There is a credit card size transmitor that is dedected when it is within 3 feet of the car. Then you get in push the brake and hit the button then she starts. It is a fantastic option. I haven't used the key since I bought my S55!

It's not hard to know if you have keyless go or not. If you have all these three then you have it. If you have it and it doesnt work, then your key needs to be reprogrammed. Visit your dealer for a sure fix. Credit card type keys were last used in 2003 after which MB switched to the regular looking key.

Credit card is for an older system. 2005 keyless go looks like regular key. It's the one with one battery. Dealer needs to program keyless go for you. You cannot leave key in the ignition for programming. Take the key with one battery to your dealer to program. Hopefully your car is still under warranty.

I am assuming your keys work in the ignition right?

If so, and you recently purchased your car, then the answer is simple.

Whomever had the car before you bought a new set of keys and had them programmed. The Keyless Go key looks like the other key, but it has different transmitter on the circuit board.

Therefore it is entirely possible to order a replace non keyless go key for a keyless go car and it will work in the ignition.

If your keys start your car from the ignition, then they are programmed.

You will need to get your dealer to get you another set of the correct keys.

Otherwise your keyless go system could be malfunctioning.. That's not probable, but I wouldn't rule it out.

YOu can only solve this mystery by taking the car and the keys to the dealer and having them diagnosed.

Yes you go to the Dealer and ask for a Key. Those credit cards were no standard. In other words when you ordered Keyless go you had the option to use the card or the keys or both. the cards weren't very popular so they were phased out all together. There is always a key version available.

So that means my key should work the same as the card for keyless go. I will have to go check it out. Thanks
Johan
