Drivers door close assist feature not working

okay really don't want to do this but I had to result in this to start a new thread. I tried searching but the search is not operating properly, didn't find the answer I was looking for and tried specifically searching AMG w220 forum and W220 forum but it still searches all sections and repeats results irrelevant threads.

Anyway my problem is the door close assist feature was working when I parked my car at tim hortons and when I got in again tried closing the door but wasn't sucking in anymore. All other 3 doors work fine.

It's usually the vacuum pump (something breaks internally that only affects one door), but it could also be a vacuum hose or the latch.

Seems to be an extremely common failure.. u 2004 did the exact same thing and they replaced the PSE pump. Just recently the trunk started the same crap after working backwards for like a year... I have;t had time to take a look at it yet..

The PSE pump is like 400 something and located in the rear trunk somewhere. Are you warrantied?

my god I fixed it. I disconnected the battery for 15 min and reconnected it while it was disconnected I checked every fuse they all looked good then reonnected the battery the drivers door close assist start to work again.

Hmm should of started this thread AFTER I tried everything... Oh well it'll come useful to other members searching.

you can actually just pull the yello 20 a fuse under rear seat and it will be same as disconnecting battery/

OK this problem is repetitive. The feature stops working even after battery disconnect after 5-6 days. Is my door control module going bad?

All the other doors work fine and once I do a battery reset the drivers door works fine again so I don't think it's the pump problem or a leak etc..

The reason for this is that if the PSE runs too long, it will shut down YOu have to reset it by pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery. ( pulling the fuse is better for the car )..

If you keep having to do this, that means that there is a leak..That is a safety built into the system to save the pump.

IF you pull and replace the fuse, leave the door open and in a quiet plact manually push the latch with your finger till the pump closes the latch. Then listen carefully for and hissing sound you shuld hear it either at the door, or if you try this at the PSE pump, you will find out exactly which component is faulty.

Remember, after a few time it wil stop working again and you will have to reset the fuse again.

IF it faults again, its better to leave it faulted, if you keep resetting it, you will burn out your pump and need one for sure.

also... if it is the PSE pump shouldn't it affect the other components as well as the other three doors? I Will try this tonight.

No..

There is some crazy way they did the distribution manifold for the PSE. it is entirely possible to have only one door usually the drivers, and have to replace the entire pump. Mine was replaced under the same conditions..

My driver side have no power at all

But my hold driver side don't work i pulled the fuse about 5 days ago and it work ok now it's not working again did anyone figure out exactly what the problem was.

Yep, I've had the pump replaced and the only things that didn't work were the driver's door soft close and the driver's dynamic seat bladders. Apparently there's a little plastic thing in the pump that breaks and only affects the line to the front left. On AMGs you know the pump is failing when the pilot light in the seat support control starts blinking.

Do you think that plastic part is repairable? I'm going to observe the PSE unit tonight.

If I recall it's a fairly complicated little casting and it shatters. It's not available separately and it looks like a bear to fabricate. But you may discover a different failure.

Check the link, the W220 system differs, but also has a closing pressure adjustment switch. If the pump comes back to life after "reset". This will fix it for good!

okay heres my pump's adjustment screw. looks like theres another hole for a screw beside the one circled in red and also a switch...the screw is missing: Do I adjust the screw that's there inwards or outwards?

No, It just looks like it needs another screw. Looking at the picture you need to turn it so that the nut circled in white, moves to the left of the picture. Remember that on the W220 the pump continues to run for about 5 seconds after closing pressure (The switch) has been attained.

OK I put everything back together and did a 'test' after. Now the pump works for 3-4 seconds after the door has been sucked shut. Before it used to work for 15+ seconds where I think it 'timed out'. I also noticed before when the door was sucked shut the door was still being sucked in for 10 seconds then was let go after the pump shut off. It now sucks shut and releses the door right away, and is working like it's suppose to.

I'm going to see for a couple of days if the door stops working again if it doesn't then the problem is FIXED.

Hopefully this thread will be usefull to many other members that have the same problem and hopefully the picture I posted is helpfull to them.

The picture is definitely great, I felt like a dork that I did not take a picture myself. The timing that you say sounds about right. You have now set the pressure switch to close off earlier, and in this effectively set the pump to shut off way before time-out is reached. Lets see what happens during the next few das.
