Royal Purple motor oil does not have ANY MB approvals, which is why it would void your warranty if you still had one, still that is a good enough reason why I would never use it. And you must only use MB transmission fluid in your transmission, there is no 3rd party vendor.

Royal Purple must have an amzazing marketing department, I only wish they would invest it in R&D and good management, then informed people might use their products too.

just my opinion

dont do it.not the atf.differential fluids are a little less critical and have a much simpler task when compared to the complexities of the auto trans.if you think royal purple has developed technology that MB isnt aware of and your trans will last longer or perform better on royal purple than the prescribed MB fluid then go for it.

I saw that royal purple crap sitting on the auto parts shelf next to the mobile 1 bottles. Read something about their oil increases horsepower and other fairyland claims of theirs and asking about the same price as the the other leading oils. Just stick to Mobile 1 0W-40 Full synthetic.

Royal Purple confirmed that MAX ATF is compatible with MB ATF. MB ATF cost the same so for ATF I stayed with OEM. I ordered them from BMAparts.com

Royal purple motor oil is good stuff. I use it on all my cars when I change my own oil.

Which ATF? They say 236.x, but not what x is.

That's like saying whenever Mercedes comes out with a new ATF, this stuff will automatically be a replacement for it.

I'd be much more interested in MB confirming it's compatible than Royal Purple saying so.

Perfect example of my point! That ATF is fine for the five-speed transmission, but it will ruin a 7-speed.

The even newer ATF, required for the 7-speed and certified for the 5-speed, is A001 989 45 03 13. The older 4-speed takes a totally different fluid. They're all "236.x," but 236.1 is very different than 236.12. You can't interchange a 236.1 ATF for a four-speed and a 236.12 for a seven-speed. A 236.10 will work in a five-speed, but not a four or seven. Royal Purple 236.x may work for some MB auto transmissions, but it's guaranteed to fail in others. Why would anyone chance it?
