caution with eurotech luxury wheels (ebay)

eurotech luxury wheels on ebay. i purchased some wheels from these guys back in march...ever since i've put them on, i've had a vibration problem with the car...i purchased a new set of goodyear f1 tires and took the car back 3 different times to be rebalanced (road balanced everytime). wheels would balance out but the car still had the vibration. about a month ago (with only 10k miles on the goodyears) i bought a set of PS2’s knowing they are the best tires you can buy. well the vibration was still there so i took it to the mercedes dealership...he told me the 600's can go through ball joints and control arm bushing fast because of the weight. so the dealership replaced the ball joints and control arm bushings. the sa called me up and said "your car is ready and by the way, where did you buy your rims?" he said i needed hub rings. i called up the guys at eurotech and they said that's impossible because every wheel they make is 66.6 (mm i presume). they said they would call discount tire and get back with me. after 7 days of not hearing back from them i called them today and a guy named "RUSS" at Eurotech told me the following....

1. it's impossible for the rims not to be 66.6
2. the mereceds dealership are not the experts and he is.

when i asked if i used a mic and the wheels weren't 66.6 what were my options? he yelled at me "IT'S A ****ING COMPUTER". oh yea...and i've been calm the whole time...you usually get further with sugar than you do with spice.

i had amg wheels on my car but they were beat up so i thought i would try these wheels out.

once again the car never had a vibration problem until i changed rims and tires, since then i've changed out just about every part there is. all i wanted was the opportunity to mic the wheel and if they didn't measure out to what he guaranteed they would, what were my options. I have none at this point. this guy was very difficult to deal with, kept talking about how it was impossible for it to be the wheel and had no professionalism.

when buying wheels from eurotech (ebay) i would use a word of caution.

my lesson...you get what you pay for.

btw...chrome double spoke amg wheels for sale, 18x8.5, 18x9.5...both 44 offset.

the newer AMG rims have a 9" rear.

you have 9.5", i presume.

housclass, sorry to hear about your bad experience.

the price makes it tempting, but as you said, you get what you pay for.

To Add to that, it's not just the price... If you had asked about the center bore you would have known from the stat that you were going to have issues with these wheels..

IF the bore is not 66.56 you are going to have issues unless you are very lucky. these cars are very sensitive like that and not every wheel is set up like that. Sometimes you can have good success with a wheel with standard bore using a centering ring for corection like Tire Rack sells but that's not always the case. Especially with the oversize wheels. The balance must read 0 all the way across or you are going to fell it even if ever so slightly at higher speeds.

I always have to make sure my balancers don't try to get away with a .20 or .25 blance because I tell them if I fell it I'm bringing it back. And only once!!!

I don't like my seat backs vibrating when I am going down the highway. Thats not luxury.

Anyone that has dealt with EuroTech Wheels I'm sure by now knows that they are scam artists. Russ (which I presume to be the owner from what I've gathered from them) is an absolute joke to the human race and about the most unprofessional person working for a business that I have EVER come across. I bought a set of wheels from them for my Audi S8 last year and had the SAME VIBRATION PROBLEMS. I would pop my factory wheels back on and voila, my buttery-smooth ride was back ... back to Euro**** wheels and vibration was back that would drive you crazy. I spent hundreds balancing and rebalancing, having the car checked, etc. and there was still a vibration. I called and got transferred to this same joke of a person named "Russ" who proceeded to cuss me out. So, I simply called my credit card company and performed a charge-back (which for those that don't know is a protection afforded by your credit card company for exactly this type of situation). They took the money out of his account, and sure enough, he started (Russ) calling and cussing/threatening me on my voicemail. I had the wheels all boxed up and ready to go back to them but told them plainly that I would not be spending the money out of my pocket to send their defective crap back to them, and UPS labels showed up a couple of weeks later. Even after they had received the wheels back Russ proceeded to call my phone every 30 seconds until I turned it off, and then again left messages cussing me out and threatening me like the 10 year old child that he apparently is. Moral of the story is, for anyone that has been scammed by this idiot, call your credit card company immediately and do a charge-back. If this happens enough they will cancel his ability to accept their card and hopefully put the pathetic crook out of business.

I can't believe I didn't see this post sooner. I just ordered some of those wheels through Discount Tire locally. I thought it would be nice to get some really nice wheels for 1/3 the price of the HRE 841r's they look like. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens. And I'll even post pix if I can figure out my wife's new camera.

I bought wheels from another place like that on Ebay and they were junk. Two bent after hitting small potholes and one the lip split from the rim after hitting a larger pothole. I have hit ton's that were worse than those with the factory wheels and they stayed true. I put factory 9.5" all around so that I could rotate. I had Michelin Pilot Sports 285/35-18's but wanted more sidewall as Pittsburgh's streets are horrible. I went with a Michelin 255-45-18's all around. They fill up the wheel well more than I thought, but the ride is incredibly smooth, potholes, let alone expansion joints, hardly effect the ride either. With the 285/35's you felt everything.

Got my wheels installed today

Wow...Killer!!!

The hard part for me is that I'm 41 years old, and own an advertising agency, so I couldn't go too BLING. I think I made a great choice. The wheels look great, the ride is AAAAMMAAAAZIIIINNNNNNGGGGG!

EUROTECH 20" W/FALKEN 452'S 245/35-20 & 285/30-20. I haven't owned a set of Falken's since 2001 so I was a bit skeptical. I was especially concerned that I would lose ride quality going from the stock AMG 18's to these 20"s would make the ride too firm. I was wrong to be concerned. The rdie is glass smooth, super quiet, very compliant, and even more stable.

After only 8 hours I couldn't be happier. I only hope to still feel this good about this 6 month from now.

I'll post pix this weekend if the weather is nice.

yall with the vibration problems should check and see if the center bore of your eurotech wheels is really 66.56. If its bigger try a hub ring and it may work

I have set of staggered 19s on my 03 E320. Had the same problems with vibration at first, but I later found that after 3 attempts at balancing the wheels that they are difficult to balance. It wasn't until the 4th time that the shop got it right. Make sure you question the tech who doing the work because the computer they use is not always precise and sometimes give a generic reading. Since then, no vibration. These wheels replaced my Moven wheels which our now no longer available because the company was bought out.

Hunter Balancing

I got a set of 19s from eurotech for my CLK and was told to have them taken to Discount Tire for "Hunter Road force balancing" which I guess is the latest and greatest in wheel dynamics. Those guys got it right the first time. I've heard a lot of bad stories about aftermarket wheels and vibrations but didn't experience any of that. I guess it depends a lot on the shop and how/where they apply the weight and the machine used.

(the above post is from a eurotechwheels employee)
I wish i read this post earlier, I currently also have wheels/tires from eurotechwheels. I have had to replace 2 faulty toyo tires and reseal a rim which was causing a slow leak. NOBODY PURCHASE FROM EUROTECHWHEELS. this is only to help out fellow mb members and not waste $1700 like I did.

Unfortunately, I have to add to these experiences as well. I purchased their knock-off AMG wheels for my E320 last year, with horrible results. Their shop is right here in San Diego, and I did it locally.

They are complete and total scumbags- while the wheel offset itself was correct, the wheel hub thickness / bolt depth was not, and they installed my original bolts, leading to a nice, card-in-the-spokes, tapatapatapa sound as I drove (bolt head hitting the brake cable). Their suggestion to fix it? Cut the bolts. No kidding. I didn't find out until Discount Tire showed me on during a new tire mounting. Cut 'em 50%, and didn't say anything.

After 6 months, all four rims were bent or hairline cracked, and losing air (I'm a pretty mellow driver in the W210). And all of this was from pretty minor potholes in downtown San Diego, nothing bad.

I put back on the stock rims, and realized how nicely the W210 rides- I had completely forgotten with the poorly balanced rims (and yes, they needed hubcentric rings that they didn't have).

Those rims are cheap for a reason, and basically made in a garage. Tread with caution.

Chris

Apparently EuroTech Wheels is under new management, as I was contacted by the new owner with a sincere apology and seemingly genuine concern about my past issues with the company. I will definitely be considering them next time I'm in need of another set of wheels. It's amazing how far good management can get a company and vice-versa.
