Key price 2004 S600 Keyless Go

One of my keys went south and the dealer told me $311 for it. How does that sound? Not sure what / how it needs to be programmed.

Thoughts?

I think I paid around $210 for the key, without programming into the car.

The key will need to be programmed into the car's KeylessGO system when the dealer receives it, I assume the additional fee is for the coding. If you don't program the key, the KG functions won't work but the key physically will work.

Are you in or around the New York City area by any chance? I can code your new keys for you.

Cool picts.....I grabbed 'em

No, I'm not in the city. But I'm EC (most of the time) so a little trip up to NYC could be in the plan. Still, not happening soon though. I make a point of only traveling so far north in the winter..... and for me, it's winter.

So how do you program it anyway? Need a tool or a just a code sequence?

Thanks man

You need to use a Mercedes-Benz DAS Computer (STAR DIAG) and remove the old key from the key track for KG, and learn the new key.

The keys have to be placed inside the vehicle on the driver's seat while the system codes the KG module for the new key address.

We have the computer at the shop, but also offer mobile service for those in the NY-NJ-CT area.

Just an update....

Picked up the car today and was charged an hours labor to diagnose the key issue. So basically I gave the dealer the bad key, told him it was a bad key and was charged $115. Does that seem right to you?

Still, I asked if I purchased a new key did it had to be programmed and was told no. He said it came from the factory ready to go.

Your prices seems right 210 sounds more like a keyless go card setup since the keyless go function is not in the key. If it is in the key 2004+ it's significantly more expensive usually between 280-320+programming.
