The Transmission Control Module (TCM) is a computer subordinated only to the Electronic Control Module (ECU) and responsible for handling automatic transmission operation.
Code 0700 corresponds to Transmission Control System Malfunction.
Its display in 722.X automatic transmissions is more a can of worms than a specific clue. The reasons, transmission maintenance could have been overlooked due to bad original schedule (ATF and Filter replacement might have not been required on User's Maintenance Guide); ATF might have been contaminated by coolant fluid due to Coolant System failure; Valve Tray Unit might have failing/damaged component; electronic failure (connector, cable, circuit component, TCU). Whatever it is may not only be a royal pain, but also quite expensive (Valve Tray, TCU). Make sure whoever is going to trouble-shoot this is very knowledgeable and reliably honest.
Good Luck,

Check for
trans fluid leakage into the tcu.
If fluid wicked up from the electrical connector on the transmission it will cause shifting isssues and that code.
Less than 10 bucks for the upgraded o-ring and connector dry out the leaked fluid replace the connector and your problem should be resolved.

I had a problem with the accelerator pedal, the throttle position sensor - and one of the fault codes was this transmission module. It had nothing to do with that, just replaced the pedal - but sometimes it can pop up too for other reasons. (There were a few more codes with it, like the throttle position sensor)

This guys have it all wrong just top off the blinker fluid you should be just fine. Just make sure to use the special TOOL.

blinker fluid is a joke, someone tells them to check the turn signal blinker fluid when there is no such thing...,
have you cleaned the electrical connector of fluid as described above?

P0700 code
I have an 01 S430 with this code on P0700, would this also turn on the ABS, BAS and ESP malfunctions. I bought an OBM2 analyzer but it does not give me the code for the ABS light being on, just the P0700 TCM problem, after reading a bunch of posts I think i can narrow it down to the o ring issue bc there is fluid in my driveway. I however reset the code but the ABS light is still on. any suggestions on why the ABS light is on. Would this also cause my steering to feel like there is no fluid in the pump and hard steering. When the car starts the steering is normal but after the first turn of the wheel it tightens up.

As mentioned above, one of the possible causes for transmission shifting problems is ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) leaking thru the connector on the transmission and wicking up the wire harness to the (TCM) Transmission Control Module. Stopping the leakage alone does not cure the problem - you have to clean the TCM.
There are several threads here on cleaning the TCM. A greatly simplified version:
Open the SAM (Signal Acquisition Module) under the hood at the base of the right (passenger) side of the windshield.
Find the wire harness with traces of ATF, follow it to the TCM.
Remove the TCM and carefully open it. Use brake cleaner to carefully and thoroughly clean the board.
Replace everything. Repeat if necessary after more ATF wicks into the TCM.
Start by looking at the sticky at the top of the page that says "start here". Look for your problem. Read, read, read. There are several similar threads shown under this answer. Read, read, read.

One of the more common reasons for your ABS warning and the shifting and steering problem is a poor connection on one or more of the speed sensors.

so I am gonna change the conductor plate and flush the transsmisson fluid but I am like 200km away from a mb dealership is it okay to drive my car their and have them hook up star and reset my system.i got the abs code scanned and it said front speed sensor a but I replaced my sensor with a new one does it have to be reset from the dealership
