W220 rear footwell lights
Guys
I had an idea today. I decided to upgrade thr footwell lights by simply adding 3mm super bright leds, with an inline 250ohm resistor. Soldered directly onto the input connections inside the lens. The effect is amazimg, I have two on trial at the moment, blue and white, they both look great and are 100 times brighter that the original orange leds (which incidently are still in situe).
If anyones interested i will take some pictures tomorrow.
Regards Big Steve :-)

When i say super bright leds thats just the name, one blue led emits 5200mcds therefore its brighter that the original but no where near dazzling, if you dropped something in the footwell now you would be able to see it where as before you had no chance! :-)

Footwell lights are supposed to be dim so that they don't distract you and draw your eye to the floor boards.
Look at the brand new MBs, there are no 100x brighter lights in the footwells.
this is common sense chief.

For the future, if you would not have gotten in to your little "purist" diatribe, I wouldn't have had any issues with your request for pics.
But since you had to blame our lack of positive commentary on us being "purists", I felt the need to remind you what the purpose of footwell lighting is.
I'm definitely a piece of work, and I'm ok with that.

No, it wasn't my
Purist comment- you discouraged op from sharing from your very first response
You are single handedly making members reluctant to post their mods , diys and info that can even help people who just want to make a repair and could benefit from seeing the pics and info on how a mod is performed. Even if you don't like it , you can learn from it.
This forum is far worse off by your continual discouragement of everyone who starts threads and offering to share info on mods

2nd. I don't like mods that pose a danger to the vehicles operator. MB, who has slightly more experience in producing passenger vehicles, correctly determined that footwell lighting should be dim. It allows you to see obvious things when you need to, and provides a nice ambiance, but it is not meant for finding a lost earring in the middle of the night. While bright lights may be great for that, it is dangerous the rest of the time...you know, when you are driving.
3rd. I'm assuming most of us here are adults. I post tons of stuff that isn't met with approval from some people. I simply don't care. If my discouraging comments, such as (aren't footwell lights meant to be dim), is preventing someone from posting pics of their mods or whatever, they should probably grow a thicker skin. I'll obviously also comment on things I find utterly ridiculous like putting exhaust cutouts on S-classes. Once again, this is a public forum, and you take the good with the bad. Not everybody can like what you're doing, be it modding, or keeping the car totally stock.
4th. I believe I add far more value to this forum then I restrict others from posting useful information. When someone has a mechanical issue, even if its someone I don't care for such as yourself, I'm the first to post help if I can. This to me is far more valuable than posts about how you can fit 24" wheels on a 220, how a 220 can be lowered so that it scrapes the body while driving or what size block of wood should be used to allow a failed airmatic car to keep driving. If you disagree, you are free to voice your opinion, but don't be surprised if I don't care.

There is no safety issue with this upgrade. Ive added one LED using 35mw (0.035 watts). Anyone with an ounce of electronic knowledge will understand! The visual effect is lovely and 100% unnoticable from the front driving or passenger seats ;-)

Any pics on how to do this mod? I'm trying to change the footwell lights to LED's but they're both soldered in. For the guys saying this would be too bright they're not really brighter than stock lights when driving, they're just a different color temp and they only brighten when the door opens giving sharper light to where you're putting your feet or cargo. More than anything else it gives older cars a fresh crisp new look and all of my bulbs now match except for these two last lights. Anyone know how to replace cluster lights/ door buttons and handles to LED's? I'd love to do the entire cars interior in low lit white instead of drab and dreary yellow.

opposite-lock...
Funny, just last night on way home I happened to look back and notice gee I'd like them footwell lights to not look out of a '73 Pinto.
I just got my car Fri and this is one of the first things I noticed, and I'm not into bling or any neu techno crud by *any means* typically. Agree w/ the 'seeking better natural looking light' comments.
Just got What's Her Face a GL a couple months prior, and getting into my neu to me S Friday was saddening to see only 2yr older lighting technology making a notable difference in my enjoyment of the interior. Her GL's got them uber nice LED map lights, they rock.
So, again funny on the timing of this post - I'm very interested in seeing pics and a better how-to write up for the painfully ignoramus (moi).
Regarding the pooper upon parade'r... there's always one of those types in every forum. This is my first week here and I'm already seeing minor niggles here / there as compared to Audi/Porsche forums from which I've transferred. Hoping 'that' improves here 8-/...

So has anyone changed their cluster lights from yellow to white/ blue? Any way the OP (or anyone else) could be persuaded to post a tutorial on changing the footwell lights that are soldered in?
