Trailer hitch on S600 (or any W220 for that matter)
Anyone done it?
If so,
what brand did you go with?
and do you have any pics?
I ended up getting rid of my E55 AMG, and swapped over to the S600, and have been wanting to stop using my GMC pickup truck to travel to all my MotoCross races with my dirtbikes. Don't get me wrong, throwing the bikes in the bed of the truck is great and simple. However the ride of the truck is obviously harsh, and the gas milage is crap. It would be nice to be able to sit back and turn on the massaging seats after a long day of racing, and enjoy the 20+ mpgs of the benz.
I know that the trans can more then take pulling around 600-700lbs of Dirtbikes, and the suspension is going to care less about the tongue weight that is less then a trunk full of a few bags of golf clubs.
But I am debating on either having a custom hidden hitch made so that I can't see it, or if one of the units you buy off the net are a pretty good start.
Anyways, thanks in advance.

Do it, don't even think twice!
You must post pictures.
If it looks good (and I'm sure it will) I'm willing to do it on my car too.
I have a donkey I need to haul from time to time (stubborn animal).

To many things...
I had a 2006 CrewCab DuraMax, Now that was the best of both worlds.... Could pull a house, run 13's in the quarter, and knock down 18-20mpgs on the highway. (It was a 4x4, that I Slammed 6" in the front, and 8" in the rear.... it was a killer looking truck) however I got offered way more then I had in it, so I let her go....
I replaced it with a older GMC half ton that I got for $163... yes, thats it. So basically I couldn't say "no" to a nearly free truck. However its a single cab, and is about as comfortable as riding on a bar stool.....
Showing up to a MX race, where the parking lot is FILLLLLED with lifted Diesel trucks, with a slammed blacked out S-class...... It will put a smile on my face. LOL.
1) Buy the hitch off the net.....
Modify it so that I can make it nearly invisible, buy making the lower portion removable with pins.
2) Buy a cheap trailer....
Paint it black, add Alum Diamond plate flooring
Make adapter rings so that I can run my extra set of AMG benz wheels on the trailer.... (just cause)
I may even flip the axle to the top side of the trailer, to lower the deck height. You know because then it will be more aerodynamic, and lower center of gravity for dragging it through the twisties. And its not like its hard to load a dirt bike over a little axle bump.
Anyways, thats the plan. I just didn't know if anyone had any pics,... so I could see how bad the stock hitch was out of the box. No worries, I'll post pics as I go.... I am going to call a few hitch places today, see what they say, and get one of the brands coming. (then fire up the welder.....)
Thanks,
EA

Did you ever do this?
Forget what the haters say.
I have a trailer hitch on my sweet old 2002 Z28 Convertible in triple black with the LS1 350 and 6 speed manual. I tow all kinds of stuff behind it, but mostly motorcycles. Get lots of positive feedback when pulling dirt bikes or even my snowmobile behind it.
Anyway, I have a deposit down on a 2004 S500 AWD and plan to add a hitch to it also, mainly for my snowmobile because the Camaro sucks in the snow lol.
I'd be glad to hear reviews and recommendations on W220 hitch setups.

Done!
Greatest tow rig ever! Installed/wired it all beginning of the month and towed it last week through the mini mountains of NH to the canadian border like it was a feather back there, it was awesome, not a single scary moment.
Trailer: 650 lbs; Wildcat X 1000: ~1400 lbs; Total trailer weight ~2000+ lbs. Next time I'll have my crf450x on the trailer also, because it was so easy.

You are a cruel person - that is so much nicer than my 16' trailer that I am suffering with severe trailer envy. You gotta change those wheels, though!
Tow car is nice, too...

The aluminum wheels would be icing on the cake, but I'd rather put the money into upgrades to many other vehicles than the trailer.

I'm doing this. I heard there's an incompatibility with the ABC suspension?

I don’t really know if there was a factory option code for this hitch, but I don’t think it is on the original data card.
