performance chip for the S Class
Anyone know where to get one? I was considering RennTech. Not really sure if there are other chips? Price range? What are the gains?

I am all for speed but when you purchased the S-class, I am sure your intentions were not to race anyone. If they were, you definitely bought the wrong car.
For any chip to have any noticeable gains in horsepower, you usually will have to do an intake and exhaust upgrade.
Best to just get some nice wheels, lower it a little and tint out the windows. Keep it simple and your car will look classy and not over done.
If you want to go fast, pick up another car and fix it up. I kind of like the new Mitsubishi Evo. Probably will never get one of those because I have an NSX which I absolutely love. Best of both worlds owning an S-class and an NSX

How wrong you are... I bought my S600 with the explicit intent to take it racing, and it does it very well indeed.
My $.02: go with the RENNtech chip. Their products work as advertised without ill side effects, and that's a pretty strong endorsement of any aftermarket tuner product.

treynor,
I actually forgot about your awesome car. I was referring to just putting in a chip for an S-500. I didn't really think that would be worth the money as we all know it takes alot more than that to get this heavy car moving.
I told a few of my friends about your S600 and they were shocked. I figured if someone wants speed and comfort, they would get the S600 or S55. If it were me, I would seriously consider the new E55. Coming from the factory and running low to mid 12's is very impressive. I am sure we can get that baby down to the mid 11's

What you say is true enough - the normally-aspirated cars do not pick up very much power with an ECU reflash.
The E55, with a chip and pulley, should be a formidable dragstrip car indeed. I'm looking forward to seeing one in action one of these days...

I would not consider a new E55, never mind the NSX - these cars can't be driven by anyone over 6 feet tall = cabin discomfort
If you want to chip an S500 you should probably redirect your attention to an S55

Chipping an S500 just isn't worth it especially if getting the RENNtech chip. I mean $3K for 10 extra horses is such a rip off. Plus on a car this size 10 extra horses shouldn't make a difference. For the money, Kleemann SC's are best for this car. I'm sure RENNtech can do a better job but, again, I'm talking assuming that money is a factor. After all, if money wasn't an issue, I'm sure an S600 would have been bought. Then I'd say the RENNtech chip is best...like Mr. Treynor's beast.

I beleive that Lorinser makes exhaust and intake kits that will give you good hp increases without breaking the bank. I beleive that Annnson has them on his S500, you should PM him and get further detail.

Treynor- Is your S600 your daily driver? And are you saying that you spent 120K+ just for a drag car? Surely you use it for other things and had other reasons to buy it?

I fully agree with the gentleman that talked about doing some work on the breathing of this beast.
I have a Powerflo system installed and it not only sounds cool but there is a slight increase in HP. taking into consideration that it still runs on stock headers. Am sourcing the best headers at the moment.
Get the air moved and you can run
