yeah, I haven't gone nuts with it.

Any chance my basically new motor mounts have somehow **** the bed? I did have an incident where my floor jack failed while doing the trans mount (which caused the rear of the tranny to droop quite a bit). I wouldn't think that would be enough to tear or damage a motor mount. I've done the hood-open, foot on brake, foot on gas, see if engine moves bit, and it really doesn't.

If compression test is fine, plugs and new dampner don't fix this, I'm going to unbolt the torque converter from the engine and see what happens.

I think I mentioned I have a good convertor for sale

I would be willing to send it to you for troubleshooting if you cover the cost of shipping - if it doesnt solve it , just mail it back to me - if it solves your problem just leave it in and pay me what you feel is fair

wow dude, thats very generous, especially given some of the tiffs we've had. So thank you.

I'm not at that point yet, but if I can be reasonably sure its the converter before pulling the trans, I'll likely be in contact.

Thanks very much.

ok, some updates here.

I have not changed anything on the car for a while, and the vibration did not improve and may have gotten marginally worse.

I swapped Cam sensors, no apparent change.

I intended to have my injectors professionally ultrasonically cleaned and flowtested, so I bought a set of used injectors from ebay. Installed them yesterday and the vibration has seemingly improved a great deal and the car runs much stronger with the low end torque it was missing. I'm hopefully that when I get my original injectors back from cleaning, they will be like new and help reduce the vibration. I also changed map sensors yesterday with no apparent impact.

Once i get the injectors back, my plan is:

Remove the intake and separate it to clean the inside
clean throttle body, egr, and intake ports
replace egr changeover valve
replace all vac lines
replace all intake manifold, throttle body, and intake tube gaskets
clean MAF

If this all doesn't fix it, I'm really not sure what else to do. Maybe replace the harmonic balance with an MB one, not the corteco.

I did most of that stuff as well on my sl. Had the injectors cleaned, banancer ect. I finally took the advice from the board and gave up the search. You will not find it. Just keep dumping money into it. I noticed on mine it was less noticeable when the ac was on. Sold the car for the many other repairs that the car needs every other month!

lol, well thats interesting.

injectors came back essentially perfect. one injector was 6 cc/min short, which was rectified by cleaning. They are now perfectly balanced and have the exact same spray pattern, flow rate, and resistance.

hmm

I would leave the eBay injectors on since they helped the problem

Keep your cleaned injectors as spares

I would, but they leak while off giving me hard hot starting, so they aren't really a long term solution.

car is testing the limits of my intelligence/skill.

If the performance is sluggish is testing another MAF sensor worth it? A genuine Bosch one, not the rubbish Chinese ones?

And check the fan blades behind the radiator are all present and correct. My mate had a very similar problem with vibration on his E38 750. Turns out he was missing about an inch off a fan blade, and it tipped the balance enough to shake the entire car..

Fan blade is groovy. Might replace the maf, but the performance with the different injectors has been way better.

ok, so I did the following:

new intake gaskets
cleaned intake manifold, egr tube, change over valves, etc.
new egr
new maf
injectors professionally cleaned
new cam sensor
all new vac lines
cleaned throttle body
new throttle body seal, new intake elbow and seals

and...the car idles much much better. little to no vibration. runs good. wasn't super cheap to replace all this, but very pleased to have the smooth idle back.

So you don't need the torque converter ? I've been holding off putting it up for sale in case you needed it
