How to change OEM COMMAND of W220 to PIONEER AVH-X8590BT

Greetings fellow Benzers,

I have a 2004 W220 S350 that has the OEM stereo in it right now. It was great ack in the day... But I seriously think an upgrade with an aftermarket PIONEER AVH-X8590BT would make my day. I mean the car is lovely and trading it just to have better audio does not make sense. So I seek the advice of all my community folks here who could guide me in the successful installation of this aftermarket Pioneer. I would like to retain the existing OEM 6 CD changer if that's possible. I want to add an amp and a decent subwoofer with front components. PLEASE HELP. Thank you in advance.

so you have to take the command out of the loop, then you install the unit, also don't forget to get the steering wheel adaptor, then rewire the whole car for all the speakers, new nav antanne, it can be done and has been done, good luck. the old cd changer will not work with new deck because the cd is also in the loop. but call midwest they are a sponser.

Hey Corkshoppe,

What steering adaptor should I be using? That steering adaptor makes the controls on the steering work with the Pioneer AVH-X8590BT right? Please let me know what is it called( company name and model no.) and where I could get hold of such an adapter? Appreciate all the help.

You're not going to be able to use the factory cd changer if you are changing the head unit , amp and speakers

It is best to rip everything out and get all aftermarket stereo components . Get a head unit that has a steering wheel control adapter

Crutchfield.com will tell you what parts you need

Corkshoppe, I am not able to understand... Could you please explain step by step... Also any place we could buy this steering adapter from after I pull out stock system and rewire. Can I use the stock speakers... I dunno if there is an amp in this car...if it's there where would it be located? I see a round space just behind the rear seats in the middle of the parcel tray. Upon checking from the boot...I think what I see is some sort of speaker. If it was a subwoofer then there would be an amp right?

i run a pioneer AVIC HD unit in my S500.

i bypassed the bose ams, running a Kicker 4 ch to the doors, and a 15" kicker sub with mono-amp.

the parts are available......but the double din looks tiny in the S500 dash

In the future, I plan to run the 8" screen from Alpine...(plenty of room to )

@SoCalw11w123: Have you integrated your steering controls to your audio system? What did you do to the CD player in the trunk? Were you able to use it? Do you know if this Comand comes with an amplifier? If yes, where is it located? Can that amp be used along with the new Pioneer system I'm considering? What did you use to cover up the space. Are standard finishers available? Would appreciate your input.
Also if you could describe in details how you went about getting your existing system done.... Please do upload pictures if you can too.

as you can see, the double-din looks a bit small. I will try with the 8" Alpine screen...

in case you are wondering: as you toggle through the steering wheel controls on MENU:

the dash will still display AUDIO, but " -------" will be displayed.

also the same for NAVI " ------" will be displayed , because those systems will be out of the loop(disconnected)
