2006 S430 4Matic Front Drive Shaft

Hi all, went out this morning to get breakfast then go to work. I felt some shuttering on the highway. Went into the parking lot at the restaurant and pulled into a space. I heard a big pop about the time I stopped. Long story short the U joint on my front shaft distroyed itself. Looking for a front drive shaft now. Here is my question. While waiting for my new part I really need to use the car. What would be the impact if I were to remove the drive shaft and just run on the rear till I get my parts? In my younger days I did it with my CJ7 when I spun an axle. Drove home in front wheel drive.
There is a lot more to this car though. I want to know if I will be screwing something else up if I try this. All input welcome.

The axles go through the oil pan, so I don't think thats an option in this case.

not an easy part to find unless new

Ok guys, I have the answer. The front drive shaft is bolted at both ends with a slip joint near the front. I took it off and tried to drive the car to see what would happen. Turns out that the car will bearly move because of the power transfer in the transfer case. Seems it wants to see all four wheels working. I parked the car and rented one till I find a drive shaft. The old one was not to hard to get off. Drop the splash shields, the O2 sensor and go after the bolts with a T50 Torx with an air ratchet. Installing will be a breeze.
