2001 S430 Engine Shaking

Hello,

I have a 2001 S430 and have a engine problem.
When I start the car, sometime the engine is Shaking very badly, it is not like a small vibration, I feel like someone shaking a car.
The weird thing is, when it happens, I shut off the engine and restart it , sometimes shaking is gone.
After I drive some distance, it start to shake again, then I turn engine off, and restart, sometimes it fix the shaking.
And while I stopped at the traffic light, suddenly engine start shaking, but sometimes, the shaking stops by himself.
Anybody have any idea why it does that?
Do I need to do tune up?
By the way, the mileage is about 140K.

Thank you for your help.
Kevin

You need to hook up an OBD11 scanner and check for codes. Is your CEL (Check Engine Light) illuminated? You could have many things causing your shaking. The fact that it is intermittent suggests something electrical.

As Mercy-me says it could be several different problems or one causing the shaking. Things that come to mind are MAF, plugs/wires, motor mounts, etc.

When the car shakes does it sometimes shut off?
