No additives required. I changed all my underside fluids last week. I used Mobile 1 Synthetic 75-80 for the Rear Diff (1.7 qt) and Royal Purple ATF for the transfer case (.62 qt). My transfer case was starting to chatter in the morning so I changed everything including the tranny. To change the transfer case oil you have to drop the transmission support bracket so you need to support the tranny in the process.

thank you. i just had both just changed, have a chatter that goes away when the car warms up but noticeable when i first pull out of the driveway and make slow right turns. I don't think its the transfer case since i remember that noise and when i changed the fluid at 86K it went away completely. This noise seems to come from the middle to rear of the car. once it warms up, no noise at all. killing me!

In another post I read that the stealer just changes the fluid and takes it out in the parking lot and does a few figure 8s to work the fluid into the plates and that takes care of it. Mine has not made noise since I changed the fluid.

My 4matic was making chattering noises as well in the morning when making turns. I drained the transfer case and refilled with MB ATF fluid and the noise completely went away.
