Leaking air pump & bad fuses
Hey everyone, I recently acquired a 2000 S500 that needed some love. It had a broken grill, minor scratches, and a blown air strut in the rear-right. Otherwise it was good.
I picked it up for $1,000 and a traded iPhone 6 16GB.
I was wondering if the quality of the ride had to do with the failing air pump. It squeals like a bad belt and rattles when it comes on and it takes forever to pump the car up. If I hit the "raise" button, it takes the car over 15 minutes to get there and turn off the "car rising" light. The car feels like crap and I was wondering if replacing the pump & pump air filter would fix that at all?
Secondly, I was wondering if replacing all of the 15 year old fuses would make any difference to the responsiveness of the electronics such as the wonky heated seats that only work on the bottom for the driver side and the back and not bottom for the passenger side. Some people say "fuses only need replaced when they blow" but I feel that over decade old electronics don't work as well as new and updated electronics.
Anyway, I pumped $3,000 into it which included:
new expansion tank
coolant flush
transmission mount
motor mounts
wiper blades (expensive f*ckers)
belt
rear-right air strut
spark plugs
spark plug wires
air filters
oil change
Michelin tires (rear) - front were new
alignment
etc. ---YES everything was Mercedes Genuine, except the air strut that was Arnott.

Does your fuse box have any dirt or corrosion
Boxes that have the covers removed can have corroded contacts and new fuses and cleaning the contacts may help
My fuse box looks brand new and its 15 years old

Thanks Tusabes! The box has a cover and looks brand new. When I opened it there was a nice sound of a seal breaking so I know it was water-tight. I think I'll just replace them for my own piece of mind.
Any recommendation on the suspension feeling like crap?

There are several fuse boxes and locations...
A search at the thread marked "START HERE" at the top of the page will give you a lot of info. Start with the fuse locations...
