TCU question

Yes ive searched...I must suck at searching

2000 s430 w220 tcu # 026 545 77 32 70

I had the trans oil issue
The car wouldnt start.
Replaced the plug plus i cleaned the tcu with solvent, it worked for a trip
Changed the trans oil to show the Mercedes God i want to be friends (no bearing on the issue but needed it.)

Bought another tcu, i think i have read several places it would not have to be star married to my car. So i just popped it in and still only first gear. I did not buy the exact 026 545 77 32 70 tcu.

Now im looking for the exact tcu, am i on the right track?
Am i wrong and it will have to be married?
Is the 026 545 77 32 70 a reman?

This is my daily i really could use a little input here.

Start off buying the exact correct part number then see if problems persist

I'm pretty sure that any replacement TCU that you put in would have to be coded to your car. If you have access to or know someone who has Star DAS with developer mode, you could have it done without having to make an appointment with the "Mercedes God"

You should definitely try to get the TCU with matching part# as your original.

There are a lot of people on the forum here with Star DAS set up. If you put out a feeler with an offering, I'm sure there'll be someone close enough to you with Star DAS that could hook you up.

It really isn't clear what you are reporting as your problem.

Do you mean that the starter doesn't operate?
Or that the starter operates, but the engine doesn't run?
Or that the engine runs, but the car won't start moving when you put it in Drive or Reverse?
Or that the engine starts and runs normally, but the transmission shifts strangely/poorly?

ATF in the TCU doesn't usually stop the car from starting, it just makes the transmission shift poorly/not at all.
