What have I done!!
Hi All, New to this forum but so far seems like a good one, lots of insight and knowledge transfer going on.
Anyway, so I was at a local dealer looking at an SL55 AMG. The car had been abused badly (what a shame) and needed a lot of $ to bring it back so I knew I was going to pass. However.....a 2005 S600 caught my eye on the lot. I've never seen one up close and knew they were somewhat rare to see on a lot. Well long story short, as soon as that V12 came alive I was in love and bought the car on the spot. I know nothing and I mean nothing about the TTV12s until I read through some of these threads and now I'm a little nervous about taking on such an animal. The car is in perfect condition for 100K but after doing a little research it seems 100K is when these cars start having issues. The first thing I did is ran out to see if the coil packs had been replaced and they look brand new...so I dodged a bullet on that one.
So my question to this group would be...what preventative maintenance should I or can I do to prevent some of the more costly repairs? I'm a DIY guy and this is not a daily driver, more of a toy, so I have the time but I know some things like the ABC and ABS have to go the dealer.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Congratulations and Welcome!
Since you are a DIY type, you might be surprised at how rarely you actually have to go to the dealer. There is an amazing amount of information on this and other websites that will help, and several sources for original or OEM parts that will also help.
Do you have any service records? Has the car been serviced at a local dealership? Do you have any relationship with a Mercedes dealership?
Things like replacing fluids with the MB-specified versions will be a good start.
If you are really serious about a long-term relationship with Mercedes, you might consider spending about $500 on a STAR System (also called DAS), the computerized diagnostic/maintenance/modification system.
Look at the top of the page here and find the encyclopedia - it says "START HERE" for good reason. Research can save you serious frustration, time and money.

Both the abc and power steering have filters you can change and should be changed as both fluids are flushed , they use the same pentosin chf11s fluid
Some people have been adding an external magnefine filter to the abc line next to the fluid container
Besides coil packs and abc the cars are fresh

Unfortunately there were no service records for the car so I may try the local dealer to see if they have anything in their database on the car.
I don't have a relationship with the dealer but maybe I should start one??
