Any ideas on a replacement antenna?
My GPS stopped working on my 2000 S500 (W220). Thank you SKYLAW for your super help and knowledge and for your W220 encyclopedia
Accordingly, I changed out the splitter. This did not solve the problem. So my next step is to replace the antenna.
While going through several threads, I discovered that someone used an aftermarket product. The dealer wants a fortune for this part. The parts I see on Ebay have either no rubber gasket or they seem to be in bad shape.
Any suggestions for an after market replacement?
Thanks all!

While the writeup is specific to the 03-06 model years, there are links to sources for the antenna. If the splitter on the 00 model is in the trunk, then the steps in the write up could apply. I believe on the 00 model you could also plug direct into COMAND stack (blue FAKRA connector ?) in center console and put the antenna under the dash or in the engine compartment atop A/C plenum.

fxdeebee, thanks ever so much. Yes the splitter is in the trunk and I think plugging it in the trunk seems a whole lot easier. Thanks again, I think I will try this option and update the post after I am done. Thanks for the link, its invaluable !!

Nuts!!!
I ordered the after market antenna. It was fairly easy to connect, followed the steps in the video precisely. It was a breeze to install it.
Here is the clincher…I have 00 Sat msg……
Don't know if its a bad Antenna, or could there be something else that I need to look at?
Help

Well, if it says "00" then there is a bit of good news. That means the antennas has passed a basic continuity test. If it showed just a " - " then that would have indicated that it had failed the basic continuity test.
Keep trying on the new antenna. You might try inputting a destination on NAV and forcing it to compute a route. That will generally force a re-poll of satellites and MAY get it "woke up ".

LanceA - In the electronics world if you want to protect a circuit from RF energy you put in inside a metal box and ground it. I don't know where you plan on putting it but if it does not see the sky it will give you problems. Satellite signals are not real strong so putting the antenna in a metal box (your car) will make it worse. Ever tried to use a portable GPS inside your car? Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
