Issue pulling 12V power
Hi guys
I am a proud owner of a black 2003 s600, 18’ brabus rims, full option, 120'000 miles. Wonderful ride, drives like new. Best sleeper on earth imo.
I have been trying without success to pull 12V for powering a radar detector or a USB plug, from either the light dome or the light in the gloove box compartment. Everytime the same issue ; when first checking with a voltmeter I can easily identify a cable that provides stable 12V. Connection of my devices through an electrical splice will however not work. Most surprinsingly, the electric potential in the afoerementioned cable drops to 0V (instead of the normally measured 12V), even after the device and the splice are removed. 12V usually would not come back until the car is driven. Fuses seem ok, all interior lights work.
I understand that the cigarette lighter would work flawlessly but i really wish getting power from gloove box / dome light. Thank you for your inputs, this issue is really puzzling me.
Cheers from switzerland !

Take the ashtray out and you will see two wires SWITCHED 12v and GND. From there run a wire all the way to the passenger door from the inside of the dash (lots of space). Peel back the rubber a little bit and fit the wire underneath the rubber around the door, route that inside the roof and down to your radar detector. I did the same with a dashcam.

Small update,
As i wanted to connect several devices I ended up pulling power from the cigarette lighter to the glove box.
I took advantage of the Aux In in the glove box to connect a bluetooth receiver (Harman Kardon BTA10) that works beautifully for streaming music from a cellphone.
I can post pictures of the install if anyone interested

I have an ipod nano cycling through my music 24/7 getting charged with a 12v inverter that is inside my glove box. I wish mercedes put a dedicated AUX button on the command, so i dont have to go through the trouble of SVC then AUX.
