Key fob remote range poor.

Hello everyone! My key fobs on my 2003 S430 are getting very poor range, like 10 feet away and it doesn't work. Where is the antenna amplifier located? Maybe a fuse is blown? I tried the remote under the chin and it works from pretty far away. I also bought another key from the dealer so it shouldn't be a key fob issue.

I believe the key fob uses radio frequencies. I'm almost certain I have read other threads on this forum about similar problems. You might want to do a search on some of them.

Yeah, but i haven't found a w220 owner yet. Seems like this is very uncommon with the w220. I think the antenna amp is shot or the fuse might have been blown. You happen to know which fuse is for the antenna amp??

Have you changed the batteries in the remote?

I just bought a new remote from my dealer a few days ago, both my new remote and old one has the same range problem.

Same issue with my w215. I have an old key and new chrome key. My car fails to recognize the remote after 3hrs. I can still start the car with no problem. Its to the point I dont even lock my car when I'm home.

No one seems to have answer for this.

Check the car's battery, it may be drained for some reason.

Write up I did a while back on the Key Fob issue. Mostly background info in the beginning. Some trouble shooting tips sprinkled thru out the entire thread.
