Sudden Rough Idle

I just drove home from getting my car washed at the dealership and the next time that I started the car the engine idled very rough and my check environment light came on. I turned the car off and the idle was fine but the light was still on. Last weekend my transmission got stuck until I turned the car on and off again too. Is there a possibility that this is a computer issue? Any common issues here?

Look under the hood of your car on the passenger side near the front of the windshield. There is a plastic waffle looking grill there. Make sure that it is free of any kind of debris such as leaves. They have been known to clog up and causing the water to seep into the car creating problems with the electronics.

There is a hole in the bottom of that grate and if it gets clogged the water spills over into the car. You can easily test it by pouring a cup of water into the grate. You should see the water dripping on the ground if it isn't clogged.

I had an issue with this about 6 months ago but there was no electronic damage, just a wet carpet (the water didn't seep any further) that I fixed by drying it out for a couple of weeks. Ever since I've been pretty religious about cleaning out that valve.

Curious question... What is a "check environment light". Where is it?

Funny that I didn't notice that particular auto correct.... I meant check engine light.

You might still want to pull that carpet up and see if there is any water lingering around under there. Take your car to Advance Auto or AutoZone and they will read the Check engine codes for free.

I just did some poking around the older posts on the forum and it is starting to sound a lot like I might be having a MAF problem. The good thing is that my dealership managed to get my car in tomorrow with a loaner available tonight so I'll have less trouble with driving my car and finding my way to work. I'm not normally a dealership guy but I think that the one here where I live is phenomenal.

Let the dealer diagnose it and do the repairs yourself especially if it is a MAF. If it turns out to be the MAF make sure you buy the Bosch brand. Others may be cheaper but you'll save in the long run with the Bosch.

If you are buying online, buy from autohausaz.com i have had very good experience with them. You can check Autozone too, but they might not carry the Bosch MAF.

+1 for Autohausaz and I would also suggest http://www.pelicanparts.com and http://www.ecstuning.com

You can almost count on the dealer being at least 50% more than online retailers.

Oh btw check to see if your parts dept at the dealer price matches. I told them to price match an Airmatic pump on Autohausaz. They actually did price match it.

Final result, plugs wires and a coil pack all for the usual Canadian discount of 1600$. My wife hates me right now because of it.

Changing the wires and plugs isn't that hard if you are a DIYer. If you decide to do it just make sure you purchase the special 17mm wrench to remove the plug wires. It will make the job so much easier.
