2002 S600 60,000 miles Get it or NOT!???

Hey all. I still have my 99 slk230 that my girl drives, I also have the 01 S500 which I drive sparingly that has not 1 issue. Well I found a 2002 S600 and it looks to be a sweet ride as my everyday driver so I can keep the miles off the S500 if I keep her. I am supposed to go look at in person tomorrow so thought maybe of you with more experience then me can help me and tell me if i should buy it for 7k?

The 2002 S600 has had only 2 owners.
Here is some info the owner gave me about problems.
-Key fob looks doors but doesn't unlock them.
-Trunk Latch doesn't open electronically (no biggie for me as long as the pop button works.)
-2 Struts were replaced in 2012 with 47,849 miles (Entire suspension was checked also and leveling system was reset)
-2012 new battery
-Steering wheel telscopes in and out but doesn't go up and down
-He told me intercooler was replaced in 2012 also(i thought the 2003 and newer were the ones with turbos and intercooler?)

Based on what you have stated, that is a whole new level of anxiety. Say thanks but no thanks.

The 99-02 Chrysler era of Mercedes has the worst workmanship... I'd suggest you run away unless you got money to burn.

Yes, could be a real nightmare! $1100 Coil packs (2ea), $600+ Ignition voltage transformer, $750+ water cooled alternator, 24 plugs, ABC suspension and on and on. Not like our plain old W220's at all. Beautiful car but maintenance could send you to the poor house, looney bin or both!

As an everyday driver, why not start using your '01 S500? These older W220's that you and I own have depreciated a lot. I was going to sell mine this passed summer but when I looked up the Kelly Blue book price, I decided to go ahead and drive a few more years of depreciation out of it. I will still take a beating on all the maintenance that I have put into it but at least I will get the pleasure of driving the car. Owning an older Merc can sometimes be a mixed blessing.

Anyway, good luck which ever way you decide to go.

Bob

Well I decided to not even go look at it after doing some research. But the guy texted me this morning that he let it go for $6700 bucks. Well I feel bad for who ever bought it unless it was an experienced MB mechanic!

Hopefully, the new owner is an avid DIYer who will consider it to be a hobby.

Its not that bad a car. I owned two, with only minor problems; far less than my current one.
