You can probably change it to a chirp via the STAR system.

Default mode with the original alarm is no chirp. Some folks who have replaced the alarm unit when its battery failed report that it chirps after replacement.

I love how my e350 honks the horn when I lock the doors. I wish there is an option to make the s class honk the horn or something when I lock the door, because the lock actuators are so quiet and the lights can't really be seen clearly in the daytime.

When I replaced my alarm horn with a new unit the chirps were there.
Not so with the old one.
So yes the new horn units for the w220 do chirp when locking up or unlocking the car.

Sparky, was your siren from the dealer OEM? Or was it an aftermarket unit. I can't wait for my siren to fail, its been 12 years.

Dealer OEM unit
I replaced the original siren about 2 years ago due to battery drain.

Its a common problem when the internal horn sirens back up battery breaks down and leaks, thus creating a short circuit condition that can drain the cars main battery over night.

I remember that the original unit has been upgraded, and has a new Mercedes part number for the siren which also emits a chirp when arming disarming with the vehicle along with flashing indicators.

The old unit (before it failed) just flashed the indicators with no chirp.

Does anyone know how much a siren costs at the dealer?
