Needes a wrench to remove oil filler cap and then ugly inside
Have a newly purchased S500 4matik and went to check some under the hood maintenance items and discovered I could not get the oil fill cap off. Had to use a wrench to break it free- not a good sign.
When I did get the cap off- saw a ton of crude on the backside of the cap and also a lot of sentiment in the area inside the valve cover when the oil gets loaded into. Any thoughts on why it is so dirty? Is this typical for a MB engine?

I suspect that the crud is due largely to the oil used, and would change the oil when it is convenient, using an approved oil.

I don't use the engine oil fill port to change my oil, instead I use the engine oil filter jar. I stick a hose down the dipstick tube and suck out all the oil. Then i pour the oil into the filter jar. I had to use a wrench as well to take that cap off when the computer told me to add a quart of oil. You should be fine, most of the particles will be caught with the filter.
