Advice needed regarding Seafoam and BG 211 treaments for P0410 CEL

Hi Guys,

I have the CEL on in my 2001 S500. The scanner shows P0410. The Secondary air pump is working, the relay is working, so it seems to be a Carbon buildup problem.

I want to try doing the Seafoam treatment through the Vacuum line and BG 211 soak treatment to clear out the carbon from the Injection ports.

2 questions:

1) What Vacuum line do I use to do the Seafoam treatment?? If you could mark the line on the attached pics I would really appreciate it.

2) Is removing the 2 screws (circled in pic labelled BG 211) enough to access the Injection port?? Is there any screws, bolts or precaution I should take while trying to get access to the ports.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
j

Get some Chevron Techron in the black bottle, pour it in your gas tank just before filling up and take that baby out for a nice spirited drive.

Seafoam is not a good idea in a car filled with electronics. I fix my problems by dumping 3 bottles of the Techron stuff and fill up with Chevron, take it out for a good 15 minute Italian tune up drive. After using up all the techron and with fresh gas filled. I got more horsepower and the clicking sound from the engine is gone. I understand that you can't take it out on the streets, but a good spacious parking lot is a good place too.

Horsepower afterwards was determined by a couple of friends, so no placebo effect here.

My understanding is that the plugging is likely to be in the air lines to the exhaust port area of the cylinder heads. If you remove the vacuum solenoids shown in your first photo, the openings in the heads are where you start.

I also understand that if you "roto-root" the passages in the heads, the loosened carbon is in the exhaust ports, and will be blown into the mufflers and cats. Hopefully, there will not be enough loosened carbon to plug the cats...

Are those vacuum solenoids called diverter valves? I noticed they are pricey at $200 each (W-220s have two).
