Shifter box replacement
Hello, I am driving a 2001 S500.
Does anyone know if I can replace the shifter box with a used one (same part number) or do I have to buy a new one and get it coded?
I ordered a used one, but I didn't pay attention to the part number (apparently there are two different ones out there) and the indie shop was not able to pair it with my Mercedes.
I had error code P0705 and already changed the conductor plate and the connector, STAR system confirms that the shifter box is broken.
Thank you, any help is highly appreciated and I hope I can replace it with a used one.
Chris

If you are replacing with one from another car you need to change out all the anti theft parts as a matching package from the other car - key ignition switch ecu and shifter .
You can't just put in just the used shifter
There are Ebay sellers who sell a matched set of all 4 of these items from wrecked cars. About $360 used. You'll need the parts from a 2000-2003 model with the 5 speed automatic as 2004-2006 cars had the seven speed.
Your only option is swapping all 4 used parts or getting a brand new $1300 shifter from the dealer matched to your car
