air compressor

My 2001 s500 seems to have an air compressor not working. This morning I came out and the car seems lower. It is lower. I have lowering links up front and have adjusted the rear link. I did this about 5 months ago and all has been good until today. I was always able to raise the car with the button on the dash but when I push it now it says on the instrument cluster that it's raising but it doesn't move. I can't hear a pump running either. All four corners are low. Any checks I can do to see if the pump is bad? Any help would be great. Also the front bags were replaced by a Mercedes dealer about a year ago. Not sure when the rears were done or at all. I have owned the car for 8 months. Thanks

check to see if you have leaks on the struts.
If I recall there's a thread about how to check if the airmatic compressor is broken. to lazy to search at the moment.

If it is the compressor shop around bc that thing is not cheap. Also check youtube for tutorials on doing the fix.

Im waiting for mine to take a dump, so I can upgrade to airrex suspension and accuair lol

I don't think the struts are bad because all four corners went down. I need to locate air pump fuse or find out if you can reset that system

I forgot which box it is but if im not mistaken the fuse is in the front jsut cant remember if its on the right or left side.
try and take out the lead to your battery chill for like 5 minutes or more then hook it back up and see if that works.

ssfisher, You might have a pump problem. I have a similar problem and I just posted my own thread. My pump though comes on and the car only rises when I drive. If I drive with raise button on It rises all the way up but not when its still. The front drops after 8 hours then the back after more then 24hours. Could I have a pump problem?

Check the attached fuse chart. In the right front fuse box, fuse #32 and relay "O" are directly related to the air pump. The relay itself, (O) is a known failure item but my understanding is that it usually fails in the closed position resulting in the pump running endlessly which destroys the pump motor.

Lowering links should have no affect on the pumps operation as the pump runs according to demands of height sensors. As earlier suggested, removing battery power and letting all systems reset might get things reordered.

Good Luck,

Bob

Actually, Arnott only sells new compressors. In the case of the W220 compressor it is a new WABCO unit. All of Arnott's OES pumps come with a Limited 2-Year Warranty.

Thanks for the info. The fuse was good, relay also good. I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes and when I reconnected it the problem was still there. So I got access to the pump and no obvious wiring or hose issues. I wanted to see if the pump would run on external power so I pulled the power connector apart and found the positive pin and socket was severely corroded. They were not making good connection or any connection at all. I cleaned both the pin and socket and put stabalant 22 on them. Reconnected and it works fine now. I'm going to get another waterproof connector and replace the factory one because the socket is still pretty bad, but will be fine for a few days until I get one. Thanks for all the help here on the forum.

It sounds like the pump is working because it comes up when you drive. I think it falls down after shut down because you have a leak. Pumps up again when driving. I bet the pump is running all the time while you drive which will wear it out. Check the fittings and hoses at the pump first. They are linked to all four corners. If it was just one corner I would check there but I think your leak is at or near the pump.

Or at the valve block. Or at the central reservoir.
