Just a thought? Help New Zealand!

HI Guys,
Cheers for letting me into your group!
I recently purchased an '02 w220 500L on-line (sight unseen) where the previous owner just plainly gave up!

I will bore you all with the details later so heres the issues I just need confirmation on if im heading down the right track.

- The car starts after several attempts and idles fine (with just a slight miss)
- The car has been sitting for 3 years or more having not been started!
- The car will not Rev / accelerate apart from when floored (not passed the kick down) maybe only a Couple of revs.. Read: Couple not hundreds! IE SFA

The car was Diagnosed by a local Garage "specialist" where it was reported back "Car not responding to Throttle body" on the implication that repairs would be around $7000NZ ($4000US)! im guessing a new gold platted throttle body with chrome grease nipples is required..

My first thought is
- Accelerator pedal / TPS? Most likley?
- Vacuum leak? possible..? or a combo of the above
- Crank sensor Doubtful but weirder things have happened
- Cam sensor doubtful should still rev
- MAF no change when disconnected so again doubtful

Anyone had this before?

So now the boring bits

I purchased this for around $1200 US, its a full spec Long wheel base version with 130km.
The one thing that got me excited was that after 3 plus years and apart from 2 flat tires ALL of the suspension was up and level!

My MB Star crapped out and I havnt been able to read any codes

I have had several mercs before including ML's etc

Am I heading in the right direction or am I miles away?

I am after some intelligent replies please and if you reply "search google" or other such helpful advice i will personally slap you!!

Much appreciated!

BOycey

Boycey,
I would start with the less expensive and easier fixes. Has the previous owner ever changed the plugs/wires. I would also replace the Crankshaft position sensor (CPS). Then I would move on to the accelerator if the wires/plugs/CPS didn't fix the problems. Assuming you are a DIY'er the cost would be less than $300 US.

From what you've described, in particular, the car sitting for 3 years unused, I would think it was a corroded or or dysfunctional accelerator pedal. The part is not expensive and it's an easy do it yourself repair. This is the least expensive beginning and in my opinion the cure for the lack od revving. The slightly bad idle could be a number fo things again related to sitting for n exyended period of time. IMO, the first thing is to get it running well enough to road test before throwing money at potential issues. Good luck with the repair and welcome to the forum.

Not being smart but how would faulty plugs / wires be a cause of no acceleration, same with crank sensor...They either work or the dont!? It would either run like a bag of crap or it just wouldnt
As posted the car runs Reasonably well there is just no response from the pedal

Hi, the car has been sitting for the last few years because of this fault, not a new issue or a symptom of but cheers for the reply
I have ordered a new pedal as well as crank and cam sensors just because knowing these they will have to be done eventually... will see what happens
I had hoped someone here had been through the same issues, apparently not its going to be interesting!

Been through a like issues- it was a $40 fuel filter. After replacing Crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, gas pedal, two divertors- ended up being just the fuel filter....
