03 s600 has whinning noise
Hi, I bought a 03 s600 that had a bad engine. I replace the engine, the run fine but has a whining and humming noise coming from the driver side of the engine. I took out the belt to see if the engine is one making noise, it turn out to be fine. the noise get louder during test drive. can someone please help me if they have gone through similar problem.

Does turning the steering wheel have affect the whine? Any chance you could post a video so others can hear the sound? Is the sound proportional to engine rpm or is it more or less consistent?

...or the noise suppressor accumulator, which is located near the drivers's side. Whining/groaning is worst at 1500 RPM. Check the ABC and PS fluid carefully for level and condition.
Good luck!

03 s600 whinning.
Hi,
My 03 s600 is whinning. Sounds like it is from abc pump that I put in rebuilt. And there's more pretty loud noise like diesel. But it is all quiet when belt is off. I changed belt, idler pulley, tensioner . Now what is dampener and noise suppressor accumulator? Thanks all.

Whining noise that changes with RPM can definitely be a bad pulse dampener. It's a round bulb filled with high pressure gas with a diaphragm in there that helps with pressure pulsations in the ABC system. It's located under the passenger side of the car near where the downpipe comes through.
I have no idea what would be making a noise like a diesel on the belt. Spin all the pulleys by hand with the belt off and see what feels rough/noisy.

03 s600 whinning.
Get a stethoscope at parts store and test the noisy part carefully. Don't touch anything turning. Put the scope on neck area of abc pump. and do same on others. There's many turning pulleys on front of s600 engine. You may able to narrow it down at list if not point out where the noise comes from. I'm still working on my 03 s600. I changed it with rebuilt one $450.
also changed broken end hose got it from dealer $380. 5quarts pentosin $60 ebay(dealer $30/qt). Labor $240. ABC works good . Only issue is whinning noise. Thanks all.

I am having problem downloading the video. and the belt is serpentine belt, no auxiliary belt. I will change the ABC pump and see if that will solve the problem and where can I get the tool to do the RODEO testing? Thanks for the respond.

go back to post #12 to isolate the source of the problem.
Don't just throw parts at it.
BTW: did you change the pump pulsation damper, or the damper on the front ABC valve block??
Good luck!

That's what I meant. Removing the auxiliary / serpentine / poly-V belt is quick, cheap and easy. It doesn't fix any problems in itself, but it's one of the first steps in trouble shooting.
Depending on whether the noise goes away, it helps to tell you where to look, by eliminating some of the possible causes. I didn't fully understand your first post.
Does the car make the noise at standstill in neutral, at standstill in gear, or when its running?
Does the noise change with car speed, or with engine speed (for example when changing gear)?

Hi everyone, I did change the pump today, the noise is gone but the car is not raising up and the active body control park the car light is on and it is red. Is there anything that needs to be done after pump installation. All the CHF Hydraulic fluid was added.
