SHAKING, VIBRATING @ 1500 rpms after rear main seal replacement!

Hi,

I just had Mercedes Benz replace my rear main seal, and after I picked up the car we felt a shaking vibration under the seat around 1500rpms. We took it back to the shop they said transmission mount, so we got them replaced as well and the vibration and shaking is still their. The shop basically closed door on us, saying they can't do much for me.

The vibration & shaking is very noticeable at 1500rpms, under seat and front dash, I have notice the mufflers sounds meaner as well after the rear main seal replacement. Even in Neurtal, if i raise it to 1500 rpms it will do the identical shaking vibrating. I took it to a different shops they said they would have to pull transmission to find out what mercedes messed up, most likely when putting it back together.

Can somebody please help me with any troubleshooting I could perform on this. What could it be?

Thanks for you advise

Engine mounts where replaced 5 years ago. It does it even if I put in in NEUTRAL with out any load. I will double check the engine mounts today.

In that case I think its most likely that the exhaust is mis-aligned. Its easy to have it hanging too high or too low, and have it rub against the transmission tunnel or a bracket.

Nick
That is very true, I do hear a louder meaner roar from exhaust since they pulled the tranny to replace the rear main seal.
I am getting car up today on my lift and going to inspect the mounts & the muffler, I'm going to try and hold muffler down or press up to see if i can control the vibration then I'll know its definitely mis-aligned.
Good advise nick, hopefully you guys be able to guide me in right directions after i get it up.
Really thank you guys.

Not a real shop lift, I wish. I'm going to put the front end on ramp, like a drive on ramp and I have two 3ton jacks if needed. In the past i been able to get under it and should have enough clearance just to find out hopefully what is causing this.

They don't last long , they are fluid filled and often break open

Thats true, however even under no load, parked when I put it in Neutral I get same symptoms shaking and vibrating at around 1500 rpms and above.

Nick
Nick you might be on to something, I got under the car while car was on ramp and jacks, had my girl bring it up to 1500rpms in neutral and when it started shaking and vibrating, I held the muffler up pushed it in as much as i could and my girl said the shaking stopped and became better. It seems it might had been mis-aligned, which would be easy fix, im going to have a muffler shop take them off and put em back on, the fact that its such a powerfull shaking and vibrating and very noticeable inside the cabin makes me think something else might be shaking the mufflers but we will see, I would be happy if the muffler where the issue.

I also read that Fly wheel, torque converter could be lose. I had zero problems before the rear main seal replacement, hopefully something done by them and not an engine issue. If the muffler fixes it, I owe you all a drink.
Thank you all for the help, I will update after i take it to shop if its resolved.
