Help!!! How to install after market Amp & Subwoofer for S430
Hi,
I am trying to install Amp & Subwoofer for 2000 S430. I want to keep the stock NAV/Head Unit. I heard that there is a little stock amp in the trunk. I want to take the wires from there and connect to my aftermarket amp. The problem is that I cannot find it. Is it hidden anywhere? Any help is appreciated.
Thank you,
Minh

u need to buy line output converter Soundgate LOCB.2(about $89). Connect the device to output of the factory radio OR input of the factory amplifier then simply plug in to aftermarket subwoofer amp.

I thought about doing this myself. I wouldn't know what wattage amp to go with though. Should it be simply enough to handle the maximum RMS the sub can put out? And does upgrading the amp also improve the stock speakers? (Whether it be volume or quality)

Thanks BryBenz. That's exactly what I want to do. I really don't wanna touch anything in the front. You said that the stock amp is on the left side of the trunk. How do you remove the carpet? Last night, I checked out the trunk, saw some plastic screw (not sure whether screw or snap-on). I tried to open them by my fingers, wouldn't work. Should I use a knife to lift them out?
Another thing, do I need a capacitor to stabilize the power source. This will prevent the sub& sucking all the power.
many thanks,
Minh

I found this thread about ambient noise auto adjust. I think the solution is on page 5. Hope this might help someone else.

Hey ok so I just got a 2001 S430, head unit works, no nav cd, the amp I believe is damaged, I detected water near the area, there's an Aftermarket pioneer cd changer installed with remote by the dash, and yet still no sound. I have an amp and sub from my other car, anyway I can install it? Theres a ton of problems with it... I installed new bulbs for the rear lights, none of them work anymore, so frustrated! I upgraded from a mustang to a Benz... Please please please any advice is very well appreciated.

Thats a lot of great information...I know this is an old thread but I'm looking to replace my sub and I need to know how much depth I have so I can purchase a new sub. Do I need a shallow sub?
