Lorinser project?
I can buy 2000 S430 with Lorinser trim for very low price, but I wonder if it is good idea (we already know my wife opinion, don't we?)
So the car look good on the pictures and having high mechanical skills I was hoping that replacing front fenders and bumper will do the trick, but close inspection show lot of additional damage.
Car is generally TRASHED and beside roof and hood, all panels have some kind of damage.
I think black leather is restorable while engine seems to run well, only showing old valve covers leaks.
Airmatic works.
So can you guys talk me this way, or the other?
It is rebadged to S500.

If I were you, I'd put your time and money into a better starting point. Is the Lorinser package just the rocker panels and bumper appearance package I see here or is there more to it?

I think Lorinser is just the outside trim.
Data card is not indicating anything, yet with the special tires the car is unique.
The point is that I don't have to put much money in it and in my self-employed business - winter is slow time.
So I can take a project like that, or become couch potato.
I located one of those cars on junk yard about 1 hr away. I think I will go there on Saturday and see how many parts I can pull on the spot, then make final decision.

I'd say pass.
There is a silver S430 with Lorinser trim for sale in Dallas. http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/5754744265.html

This could be bigger project than the black one.
My $700 offer got accepted, so should finalize on Monday.

Those are stock rims, but unusual tires.
I did not have much time to check them and they don't have much thread left, but kind of strange they are only 225 wide.
I have wider on E class, so is 225 tire standard size?
Once I get the car, next day I'll be on junk yard pulling the doors and seats from the other black car there.
Not too much left on it, but if you guys need something for your W220 ,let me know and I'll check it.
Looks like I'be checking junk yards a lot this winter.

Well, if it's not much trouble, I need a keyless go start button on the shift knob. Got stuck in park, and broke mine hitting it with a mallet getting it unstuck. Ebay ones are about $100 for the whole knob but I just need the silver button and the chip below it. Pops off nice and easy with 2 flat head screwdrivers. Chip can stick in there, though. Easy with pliers. Mine came out in a couple pieces(on account of the mallet.)
I've seen the whitewall tires before, but mostly on newer Cadillacs. They run about the same as normal tires. If I recall, stock tire size for that rim is in fact 225/60.

Yeah. I am local and that is whole deal.
The outstanding fees are $190 and I will have to smog it, but that should be it.
I research craigslist and seems there are lot of parting-out W220 in Bay Area, but all of them have front end damage.. .. makes you thinking.....
Will go over tomorrow

Well this Monday morning I had to take care about something else and at noon the car was gone.
It was exciting tough, but you guys are right that I can buy good W220 for about 4 grands, so even I could restore the Lorinser spending about $2000, the time spend, risk and unknown would not make it really profitable.

Final search results.
Thanks guys for your toughs.
W220 purchase did not work, but once I start searching - I found SL500 for very good price.
So now I can call it mid-age crisis when I restore this 2-seats convertible.
Main problem in transmission in limp, but I am good here. With new door panel it will have only couple of dings, so I can get away without body work.
