air conditioner compressor pulley bypass? - It just fell off!
Hey I've seen someone post in one of the other Mercedes model forums that they successfully bypassed the air conditioning compressor pulley. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about installing a shorter belt or maybe installing a bypass pulley. (I changed the poly v belt 60,000 km ago)
Maybe not worth it? Is it possible that just the pulley this damaged and not the expensive compressor? I see the oem link for just the pulleys:

Anyway car is at the shop. shall see what happens.
Also made a video of the pulley - it just fell right out!

By the look of it, the pulley sheared around what looks like the center bolt holding it on. If that's the case, the pulley should be able to be replaced by itself and you'd be fine. The only thing I don't know is how the whole clutch assembly works for the compressor. Makes it kind of hard to see how all of it goes together. Still, I'm betting hard on only needing to replace the pulley.

The AC compressor on our cars differs from what most of us are used to...
The compressor does not have a normal clutch - the compressor shaft always turns with the crankshaft, and the pumping is controlled by a computer-controlled internal valve. If the bolt is broken and the pulley has fallen off, I suspect that the compressor has seized.
