WOW, he handed "Night Vision" option it's a$$.

Called it a gimmick. Whew, that was a trip. Seemed to like everything else though.

Great when a reviewer is not afraid to tell the truth!

For those that have seen the Top Gear episode regarding the S550, you will hear how they thought NightView was not impressive. However, they failed to test the system properly. They tested the system while the car was at a standstill. They should have been aware of the fact that the IR headlamps do not come on until the car reaches approximately 10 mph. Until then, the camera sees only what the headlamps illuminate - which would explain fully the reviewers comments that they could see nothing more in the NightView screen than they could with the naked eye. You can test this yourself by first activating NightView while at a standstill. Then move away slowly and you will notice the screen brightens and items appear in the screen which could not in fact be seen with the naked eye or at a standstill. Agreed - it is helpful when these guys are honest - but not so much when they are wrong. Just my 2 cents.

As far as I know, the S-Class has never appeared on BBC Top Gear. Jeremy and James have tested it on their own. I hope it appears in the next series- though I also hope if it does they do a better job than they did the M5 review (i.e., misusing all the electronics for comedic value, etc.)

Fifth Gear reviewed the S550, NOT Top Gear.

I will admit that many of the reviews, the SLK55 AMG and SL55 AMG were too brief to be even worthwhile, but the review of the S550 was fairly decent although they should have taken it around their track.

BTW the guy who reviewed the CAR is a idiot and an mentally retarded moran of the first order.

First he presses M-C-S button and proclaims that it controls the ABC. That idiot does not know it is for transmission not the ABC.

Second, there is a setting to adjust how much brake pressure the car will apply to distronic, He does not seem to be aware of that and he blames the car for not stopping on time

Third, he does not use the night vision properly and call's it useless. I have used the nightvision and have to say it is amazing. I test drove a car with the night vision in MB of Austin, and I was clearly able to see a couple walking their dog on the night vision but was not able to see them with my headlights. I was driving around 15 - 20 mph.

Just becuase you are an idiot it does not mean the car does not work !!!!

I think the new S-Class is a great car and people should test drive the car before passing a judgment on how it looks and the quality.

"Top Gear" tested the 221 in late 2009. Their review, including the night vision, was excellent ... loved it! See this link:

They actually did this segment in 2005 or 2006. It's been posted to this board several times and is very cool review of the new options MB was offering in the W221 at the time.

Top Gear is great......but the hosts are idiots. LOL
