S550 Easy Questions

Just got my 07 S550 and I love it. Now for some questions

1. How can I program the radio presets to change on the steering wheel instead of the joystick?

2. Do all S550s have satellite radio? I dont see it anywhere??

Thanks for the help

Satellite came with the '08's but not '07's. But don't be bummed. With the possibility of an ipod connection, you can get enough to fill your ears without satellite. (Or you can trade the car for an '08 and lose $20K in depreciation -- if not more.
As for the radio presets, with the left steering wheel button hit the circle at the 3:00 position twice, and you will see on your dash that you scrolled over to audio.
Then you can scroll up and down with the same button to change channels.

07 models did come with satellite radio. Mine did. Is it because mine is an S600?? I only test drove one S550 so I never noticed a car without satellite radio.

That didnt work!

If i go to audio with the left button it only allows me to scan the radio stations. I just want to go through my preset stations and that is all, not scan then every station that tunes in.

In all my other benzs I could do this by changing a setting with the controls on the wheel.

Can the S550 do this also?

What you are after, did work on older MB models like W210. There was a setting at the IC menu where you could select preset scan or station/frequency scan. On later models this was removed.

I never use it but I believe the option you are after does not exist on my W221, it definitely does not exist on my W211. But looking at the current W221 owner's manual, it seems like current W221 models have the feature back again. The implementation just is a bit different, you have to press and hold to reach frequency scan, pressing briefly scans stations. Quite clever actually.

Selecting a radio station

You can only change the wave band and store new stations using COMAND.
Use the buttons on the multi-function steering wheel.
Switch on COMAND and select Radio more.
Press or to select the Audio menu.
To select a stored station: briefly press or .
To select a station with the station search function (only if COMAND is not receiving RDS data): press and hold or .
To select a station from the alphabetical station list (only possible in the FM and DAB wave bands): press and hold or .

The S550 can scan through your presets using the steering wheel controls, what you need to do is bring your car in for service and have them update your Telematics system as well as the navigation. Do a search on the Telematics updated and you will find all the information you need. After 3 visits to my dealer they finally got it right and I now can shuffle through my radio presets using the steering wheel control, Watch dvd's while the car is in park, have the traffic updates for my navigation as well as the birds eye view.

satellite radio yes

My 07 S600 did not have satellite radio, but the dealer installed it for me to work through the MB command system just like installed from factory. It was pricy though at about $1200 I think.

That was good info, I was wondering if the IC would need to be updated but of course the IC is just showing the radio info and the button info is passed via the relevant CAN bus, then the HU update can change the channel selection behaviour.

It also took me 3 attempts to get the correct nav and telematic software on my early edition 2008, but thanks to Konigster and his plethora of detailed info, my dealer finally got it right. Besides the birds-eye, traffic etc., I notice that the navigation finally provides the highway/street "route" names, something I really missed. There have been many times that I have "adjusted" the navigation routing, once that I realized some of the roads that were incorrectly suggested.
