Advise on S550 steering vibration
I have had vibrations while driving at highway speeds since the car was new. After several trips to the dealer, tire replacements, rims and control arm bushing it improved by still present. I recently purchased new tires and a set of rims from EuroTech and the vibration still exists. I had the tires high speed balanced twice with no success. I had a similar problem with my S430. Has anyone had the same experience ? Any remidies that worked?

EPC (MBUSA electronic parts catalog) shows spring control arm #70, strut 120, and transverse control arm 180 installed at production have been replaced usually an indication that the part is modified. Suggest they inspect these parts inclusive of bearings.

There is a service bulliten for the motor mounts on the 211 it affects 07 and early 08.
symtoms are vibration throught steering wheel and gas pedal most of the time felt at idle but its possiable to feel it at speed. Konigstiger do you know the number of this one...i can get it tomorrow if needed.

DTB P-B-22.10/01d JAN09 S-Class 4matic up to VIN A127497, humming/vibrations rpm 1200-1600 clearly felt in the steering wheel and footwell floor may be resolved by installing optimized engine mounts.

Thought it was worth sharing........I had the steering vibration on speeds above 55 mph on my 2009 S550 and so got the wheels balanced last week.
The mechanic had a very keen eye and noticed the front right tire do a sligjht jump on the wheel balancing machine (their machine was calibrated daily) and declared that the wheel/rim was slightly out of shape.
I took it to Wheels of America in Dallas and for $155 they repaired and refinished the wheel and then balanced it too. The car rides like a dream now with NO vibrations even at 80 mph +.

Certainly do the engine mounts. My awd was 117123 off the line. There was a bad vibe, if you will. Replacing the mounts eliminated vibrations while driving.
Mounts are inexpensive, as MB parts go. I had engine and transmission mounts replaced. While they are under there with the engine, do the tranny. That way you've eliminated two exposures.
Whine--I still have a vibration through the steering wheel with transmission engaged, while stopped at a traffic light or similar. Put the car in "park" and it goes away. Engage to "D" and it's back. I have driven new 4matics and this vibration is not there. Mounts have less than 5000 miles on them.
Any ideas? Thanks.

My 2010 S550 has a slight vibration when driving fwy speeds but only in the complete neutral position (driving straight). If I have just the slightest pressure (left or right) there is no vibration. I'm thinking of getting a front end alignment to see if it helps.

had the same problems. balancing alone wont help. they will probably replace bushings in the front. good luck. known issue. most dealers will deny this fact though. if that happens ask to speak with shop foreman...

Bad bushings also cause vibration while in drive, but foot on brake at stop light? Kind of a reach, as vibration ceases when trans. put in neutral or park. All advice accepted. Thanks.

Vibrations also
My 09 4matic has a vibration or a kind of chatter in the steering wheel. Strangely, only immediately after starting the car and the tranny is engaged and I turn the wheel quickly as in pulling out of a parking spot. Then it doesnt happen again until the car is off and I repeat the procedure. The MB SA says it,s normal because the rack is electronic. I am wondering since it is a 4matic if it is the tranny and not the steering. Unfortunately it doesn't happen all the time. Is this related to this topic?, if not sorry for posting here.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Mine needed several things to fix the vibration. I had a slight vibration at idle and what seemed like a steering wheel shimmy at 80mph. Dealer replaced motor and trans mounts. Fixed the idle vibration and about half the steering. When I put on new tires, they said driver's front AMG rim had a slight bend in it. They fixed that and now rides solid.

vibration in steering,gas pedal,floor,seat
I had this problem a year ago when I bought my 2007 S550 4matic and got it home to Texas from Tacoma, Wa. as a certified pre-owned car. My dealer, park place in Grapevine, Tx., found the problem before leaving the parking lot as the motor mounts and transfer case mounts to which they changed and it seemed to fix the problem...'til now..a year later. Here it is doing the same thing...again. I have taken it back to Park Place and the mech. said on the paperwork, he couldn't replicate the problem, yet, when I got in it and drove off, I could feel it still!!! I getting frustrated again, and this shows up usually at around the 1500-1600 rpm range under a slight load, like going up a slight incline. My question is : can the motor and transfer case mounts go bad after only a year. and is there, as I have read on the Forum a better grade mount than the one that come on the vehicle? AS in the "OPTIMIZED" motor mounts? I love this car, except for this niggling problem. The VIN is WDDNG86X77A12873 I only have just over 64000 miles on it. Can anyone shed some light as to how I can get this resolved? Thanks, and have a Merry Christmas..My 73rd.

To resolve humming/vibrations in rpm range from 1200-1600 felt in the steering wheel and footwell floor MB recommendation - replace motor mounts. Optimized part # 2212400817 replaces original 2212401917, review invoice to confirm they installed optimized part if so, MBUSA covers repair for 1 year/unlimited mileage. In addition, request they “Road Force” balance the wheels/tires within the scope of repair. Speak with Service Manager requesting they revisit and involve MB rep covering dealership if need be. BTW, VIN is invalid.

I looked up my repair for the engine mounts, and they are the optimized part # 221-240-08-17 newer mounts. So...can they go bad in just a year? they were done at 60028 miles, on Jan. 15 of 2013 at park place Mercedes-Benz in grapevine, TX. this vibration has just re-appeared in the past 3-4 weeks. and I know the wheels are ok and just put on 2 new pilot sport A/S 3's two weeks ago, and the other pilots last jan. I only have 64456 miles on it today, 12-5-2013

I'm experiencing same vibration problem you have at the IDLE, I got late 08 with 20K miles. I don't think it's the mounts, as dealer inspected mine (while still on warranty, now it's expired). The vibration going away if car put in neutral or park, but I noticed turning steering wheel also affects this vibration. It's a weird problem... It comes and goes...

I do have a little vibration during idle, and it's there all the time. don't have to do anything...just feel the wheel. I did send 3 e-mails to MBUSA in NJ the past week or so, which was turned over to someone to call me, and FINALLY they did 2 days ago and said they would get with grapevine M-B and get me w/ a real tech to see and feel the problem and try and sort it out. well, I'm waiting for that to happen. we'll see. I'll try and post new results when they happen.

I've taken my '07 S550 in to park place motors in grapevine, tx., this past mon., Dec. 23 and it's fri. the 27th, now, they did call me on the 26th, and told me they are working on figuring out just what is causing this vibration still. So I hope they can as this apparently effects quit a few folks out there. I'll report again as soon as they have a fix, return my car, whether it fixed the problem, etc. Shouldn't happen to such a nice car. Dave

I just got my S550 '07 back from Park-Place grapevine,tx., and...NOTHIN'..it still has the vibration at the 1400-1600 rpm range, and still has a vibration at idle..they had it for 4 days, including Christmas, and I was told the engine mounts, etc. were inspected, didn't show it on the paperwork, even had a tech go ride with me last mon. to see what I was talking about, and HE could feel the vibration...so..when I picked it up I was told they would contact me when a regional mgr. came in to see the problem. I don't expect to really hear from them, I'll just have to keep calling every so few days to try and track him down. It doesn't seem to me to be the wheels themselves as I get the vibration at IDLE as well, and pointed that out to the tech that rode with me. so, if anyone else has any other ideas, I wold appreciate knowing what else to try. I don't think they will take it back, even though it's a CPO and I still have 2 years extended warranty. This is getting very frustrating!
