W221 S550 serious issues. need everyones help

Hi everyone. So im upgrading now. I went from the w211 with some issues. Then went to the bmw side with a 650 convertible. Beautiful and amazing car but dad is looking to relax from the cars so he's giving me s550. Pretty excited but I have a couple problems with the car. First off no warranty. Car has ~80k miles on it. We've fixed a lot so far. The hydrolic system if im correct was replaced. Car one day just slammed to the floor. Couple of other things that I really don't remember right now but also had the transmission repaired. It was doing the second gear acceleration issue. But now the COMAND is being weird. All the radio stations are gone. It reads 0.00fm. And that's for am sirius etc. Also the external memory card will not work and the cd player does not function either. No idea what's wrong. Also there is no sound from it either so the navigation voice does not come out. Then the lumbar support has not worked since we got it at ~55k miles. We go to the option and adjust the level and it just goes back to off position. And lastly when you accelerate the car seems to be very shaky and stays that way when ur on the highway. Its not the wheels. And one mechanice said that it was a reinforcement bar under the car in the front but im not really sure if that was the case. If anyone can chime in and give me any information I would greatly appreciate it. And ill post pictures of the car real soon. Thanks.

Sounds like alot of issues. The COMMAND system may actually be the amplifier located in the trunk. It provides all the juice for the voice and sound. I had the exact same symptoms as you described and they were all (with respect to sound) fixed when I replaced the amplifier.

The other folks on the forum may be able to speak to the other issues. What year is your car?

Its a 2007 s550. I know it's the first year. And I actually heard from my cousin that it might be the amplifier but what got me was the no radio stations and it seems like it wasn't recognizing any other media either. But changing that amp might do it. Anyone else with info chime in. Thanks.

Sounds like the only thing not working right now is the COMMAND system. Not sure what to tell you about the car, but, I would definitely keep your dad.

Command issues have also been linked to a bad second battery (the one in the back). Sounds like the Lumbar not keeping level could be a bad valve in the system (I think it is an air bladder) but also check that it is not reverting to the memory position. Lumbar inflation is "remembered" by the memory seat buttons. If its set to zero in one of the memory positions then you set it to inflate, the next time you get in the car and hit your memory button it will deflate...

The vibration (feeling of rough acceleration) can be from bad motor mounts and / or bad transmission mounts (very common problem with this car) Also- you are getting close to having to do a tune up (sparks, wires, etc.) I think thats at 90K mi (or is it 100??)...

Did this car have good regular maintenance and service history?

Yes Egauster is correct....the sound issues do relate to the second battery (in the trunk). My car was sitting for a while before I picked it up and I had to end up replacing the second battery as well (both eventually).

These cars are high consumers of the battery with all the electronics (with privileges come responsibilities...and when the battery becomes weak, the COMMAND, amplifier etc will be afected unfortunately....have a test on the battery and replace if less than 12V.

Alright so how about this one. We haven't driven the car in about two months so now the battery is dead. I go to unlock the car and its not working so I try the valet key. And its not the correct one for the car. So I decide I have to go order one now. But guess where the registration is. Locked in the car lol. I just got a copy and ordered the key from the dealer and since I was there. I bought the front sway bar bc the Mechanic I took it to said the bushings were bad and the bar is loose hence the shaking. So im going to get this stuff friday and most likely another battery if the one now is dead. And well c if that does it hopefully.

I would make sure to replace BOTH batteries and have the motor mounts and trans mounts checked. Prob good idea to do a service for oil, filter and trans fluids (although if you had trans work done the trans mounts, fluids are prob fine)

So I dropped the car off at a Mercedes specialist shop and he told me what was wrong. So far. The engine mounts and transmission mounts are bad. The strut assembly we just got installed is messed up. The wheel is very loose and moves up and down badly. The amp is done. Comand unit is not working. The right rear bearing is messed up. so don't know what to do now.

Mine had a serious vibration at 1600 rpm ish even when in park and reving it. No vibration at idle. So I took it to an independent Mercedes shop and they replaced the motor mounts. Vibration was still rampant. I went to carquest, bought an OEM quality tranny mount. After the tranny mount, it drove like silk. The only problem now is that it shakes a tad at idle which never happened before the new motor mounts. I should have first went to the tranny mount and never worried about the motor mounts.

I've been getting a vibration from the drivers side floor (feel it in my feet) when just above idle or when stopping and the car returns to idle (around 900RPM's). Been to 2 local dealers now, both have not been able to fix yet. Any ideas???

100% its the transmission mount. I paid $40 for an own quality German brand mount from Carquest auto parts and it was installed in less than 30 minutes by a local shop. Silky smooth now.

Thanks I'll give that a try. Its still under warranty so I'll ask the dealer to change it.
