Range and Fuel Tank Capacity on S350 BlueTec
I'm trying to figure out if 23.8 gallons that Mercedes lists as the fuel tank capacity includes the 2.9 "reserve" or is in addition.
With 23.8 gallons, the range of the S350 BlueTec is 737. With 2.9 g added in, it is 827.
Thanks in advance for input here!

I'm able to get my range figures, according to the onboard computer,up to close to 900 miles on the highway. However I haven't calculated it properly...with the fill-empty-refill method but I'm going on a 4,000 mile road trip this December and I'll be tracking things closely during it.
And BTW...are you *the* Jonathan Spira of The Diesel Driver and the BMW boards? If so,I'm surprised to see that you're a newcomer to MB World but better late than never. Also,if you're Jonathan...you probably don't remember but last year you told me that you had it on good authority (from a BMW executive) that an F10 diesel would arrive here within months.I waited and waited but decided to wait no longer so I'm now in a Bluetec. You should scold that executive for having misled you.

And BTW....I,too,find M-B's figures regarding fuel capacity confusing. One of these days I'm gonna either contact the dealership's service dept or run the tank down to fumes (risky with a diesel) to see exactly how much my car holds.

Re your figures, problem is I'm trying to reconcile what MB says on an S350 BlueTec, not an E350 BlueTec.
The figures ARE very confusing regardless.
Congrats on your E350 BlueTec by the way. If you want to see mine in Sindelfingen, click here.
P.S. nice to see you here!

FYI - The reserve amount is always included in the total tank capacity. Also, with the new generation of V6/V8 engines, the fuel tank size decreased slightly from 90L (23.8g) to 83L (21.1g) in the effort to reduce weight and improve fuel economy. Given the better fuel economy, range does not suffer.
