Thank you for your time and knowledge. I am taking my car into MB tomorrow. This dealership is not the easiest to work with. When they find I didn't buy the car from them, they turn off the charm and put me on "ignor". But when they mess with "one of my own" I can be ruthless! I want my baby fixed! LOL

I will report back and let you know what happened. I'm told it will take about 3 hours to determine if the telematics system has been updated.

It WORKED! They installed the telematic update and re-installed the navi disc update. I have Bird's Eye, real time traffic, but what's even better is my navigation system works.

I can't tell you the countless hours I've spent calling repair shops, visiting repair places, searching on the internet and finally posting here.

Two things saved me mega-dollars for unnecessary part replacements. First, a Mercedes repairman I found. I told him my dilemma. He picked up the phone and called his friend, who was a repairman at the dealership, about the problem and sent me to see him directly. The repairman spent his time trying to correct the problem but failed. He said he had a couple of cases like this recently. He really tried to the best of his knowledge and even gave me his cell # to call any time. He charged me nothing.

I told him I knew there had to be a problem with the update and eventually it would be found out.

At this dead end, I started searching the web for anyone having similar problems. Here is where I landed - and glad I did.

After your last response to me, Konigstiger, I sent a text to the friendly repairman asking if the telematics update had been run on my car. He said he didn't know but would check it if I wanted to come in and would see that I was charged a minimal charge.

The update was successful. I was charged less than $100, which was fine with me!!!! He went out on a limb for me already so I have no problem with this. I will be dropping a gift by for him in a few days - (just waiting to make sure all is OK. But, I really feel it is. Just want to make sure.)

Sadly, I'm re-paying the wrong person. I'm paying the person who tried. You two (Tavolcom9 and Konigstiger) are the ones who figured out the problem.

I don't know how to tell you how much you helped me. It truly was not the money! But I knew I had no computer processing problem or electrical trouble. I wanted this car fixed, not ripped to shreds. You helped me get that done.

I'm looking to for the current Nav and console updates for 07' S550.
Live in an area with new roads being added. Does the console update change the view on the screen to something a bit more hi-tech than what the car came with in '07?

The current Nav does not change the view on screen. We were hoping that the update would also let you get a specific address location rather than getting to a range of addresses. Not.

And, do you know if your car has the telematic update? If not, you may run into the problems I did.

I don't mind sharing the update disc but not sure how to "lend" it and make sure I get it back.

Also, it does give you the features Bird's Eye and real time traffic, which was not there before.

I need the Nav because so many new streets have been built. If the Console Update does other improvements I definitely wanting it. Love the car but the antiquated console view is a let down.
I do not know how to "guarantee" return of a "rented" product. I'd be very grateful to upgrade so why not? In my business of photography I'm sending, downloading and retuning photos on DVD's and CD's all week, so it happens with honesty and speed.

Intern, I am not comfortable lending the nav update disc to someone who is new to the forum. Yes, I'm new, too, but I'm the one who would be taking the risk. Plus, I'm not "renting" it out. I was talking about a loan.

I'm sure you are probably trust worthy and reliable. But I'm just not a gambler. Sorry. Hope you understand.

I have an 07 S550 myself and I had a telematics system update for 2011 with video option done this morning. I was imediately able to watch videos, the dealer also installed rear camera wires. The update cost me $180..now I'm awaiting my VIM221 module so I can watch videos in motion. TJ.. from midcity emailed me the exact information the dealer needed to help them with the right update. Hope this helps anyone who wants video option.
Be careful, the dealer said they had never had a request like mine, so midcity documents came in handy, the quoted price started at 80. Then it jumped to $148. Finally ending up at $180. But I am extremely happy and thankful to all who contributed previous info.

I just purchased a 2008 S550 4Matic. I would like to update my systems all described in this thread but where to I FIRST go to check and find out what versions of everything i have etc.

Is there an option in the COMAND that works kinda like a personal computers device manager so to speak that shows all of this....... version of telematics, version of navi etc???

One i figure this out and get the correct information then I'll know what I need to update IF any updates are needed.

I had a 2007 and knew that my system needed updating due to me not having video, i would suggest that you go to your dealer and ask them to check to see what version you have on your next service, that way you dont get charged......

the latest navigation update is command 2014, updated my 07 S550 and it works just fine, takes about 30mins.

Does anyone have a ISO of the DVD that I can get. I just bought a 2007 S65 and have the birds eye view and video but the maps have the older version. I am located in the south bay CA.

After 26 years in the military I brought a 2007 S550. The telematic was updated for the new MBrace. I have video, birds eye view an all. I just need the updated disc for the navigation. Alot of the streets are missing and it has never been updated.

Hi everyone. I am totally new to this site. It's great by the way! So much information. I'm trying to familiarize myself with it now.


I have a quick question and I'm not even sure if I'm in the correct thread, but I certainly hope I am! I have a 2007 s550 and I am looking to update my navigation. It doesn't have many of the roads/highways in my area. It also does NOT have the "traffic" part working on it. Now I should tell you that I DID have the system (not sure of the proper name) itself upgraded. The upgrade I am speaking of allows for "birdseye viewing", dvd video, preset channel changing via the steering wheel controls among other new options, it's a nice upgrade and I enjoy it very much. I do not have the new navigation installed however. I believe I only need a DVD disc in order to upgrade it. Does anyone have that disc? May I borrow/rent it from anyone here? I would be more then happy to pay for it. If anyone could please let me know I would really appreciate it.

Hi... My dad is older and im his son. Id like to rent the navigation update for his 2008 S 550. The navigation system doesnt even have birds eye view! We live in orange county CA. I can drive to you and perhaps install in front of you? Whatever works! Let me know what you are comfortable with! Maybe i can pay 50 bucks to rent it? I am baffled that house of imports is charging 350 - 550 for it!

Interested in a update copy as well. Also, please let me know the proper way to approach these dealers about this telematics update. Everytime I contac them about this, they act as if I am speaking a foreign language. So how do I properly ask for this update? Thanks

On a related note, has anyone had the telematics update done in the greater Toronto area or nearby? I am in Buffalo and Detroit a lot too and would be able to take the car to a dealer there also if necessary.

I went to the dealership in Oakville, they charged me 1hr labour ($150!) to try and do it, then came back saying "we tried for 2 hours but your COMAND system is defective and it will cost $7k to replace it". They said this diagnosis took one hour so I owed them the $150.

Basically it sounded like the tech couldn't figure it out, and they wanted me to get lost and stop bugging them.

I paid and left, pissed off at them. You would think they would have asked one of their techs if he had a clue as to how to do this before they even wrote up my work order.

I'd love to know if there is a dealership anywhere near me that has done this so I can call, verify they know what they are talking about, then take the car in. I'm not interested in spending another $150 to try again....

By the way, are there any instructions on how to do this in WIS? I can't find them. I was able to download an ISO with the telematics update, and I have a copy of STAR. I'm told that its an online update, but if so why does it come on CD/DVD? I suspect the newer versions of STAR do it online, but I have a copy of an older version.

When I run it and plug into the car, I open up the COMAND section and it says "to run telematics update insert update disc". I haven't proceeded further as I am not sure what I'm doing from that point on. But it sounds like I might be pretty close.

If anyone can help me get this working, I would be happy to share the procedure.

Thanks for the PM's. There are some excellent members here. I was able to update my Nav to the latest version. I will have to get the dealer to update firmware due to some quirks but the Nav update was successful.
