Comand does not power on
I need your help guys.
My comand system does not seem to be turning on.
I have an NTG3 system.
My friend was installing a VIM interface for me and when he reconnected the system, it does not power on. He has assured me that he followed the instructions correctly. Does anyone know what the issue could be? I'm hoping for something simple. I have just purchased the car so this is a major blow!

I was told that the car power was not off when installing so i am worried that this maybe the cause.
Where can i find info on the fuse locations? As i bought the car used I cannot find the sheet in the wheel well.

I managed to get the fuse diagram off the dealership but the problem is the fuses do not tally up with the diagram. I have been told to check fuse 73. When i check the fuse box there is no fuse in that position!!
Could it be plugged in elsewhere?

I would have your friend recheck his connections. Mistakes happen no matter how careful and thorough we think we are. It definitely sounds like a mis-wiring issue.

Hi guys, I'm in the same situation. I have tried to clean the DVD lens and after installing the comand unit it is dead, the screen is totally black. I've checked the connections many times and checked all fuses as well but no luck. Any ideas?

On my '08 CL the fuse is located in the trunk, behind the rear seat panel.

There are multiple fuses that service COMAND, in several locations. In my 2010 they were in the passenger side dash end cap, under the hood on the drivers side and behind the rear seat center armrest.

Most likely your issues is VIM not properly connected or simply not suitable for your car.
PM if you need further assistance

This is true, however I was speaking of the fuse for the Command Control Unit.

Get one of the videos on youtube or on this website showing the install of your brand of VIM on a W221. Then check the install with your friend.

Hi, can you give me the first 6 digits in you vin ie 221xxx.
I'll look up what circuit diagram suits your car and post a screen cap so you can check for power at the back of the command unit properly. It will also show what fuses go to it.
Another thing is it may be a CAN-BUS error with wires connected backward (that is if the bus was tapped).
Cheers.

^ Cool. He'll need the second part of that, it shows where the fuse blocks for each of those is, and the location of each fuse within the block. #73 I believe is in the right side dash panel. The others are under the hood on the drivers side, or in a panel behind the center armrest in the back seat.

Hi, sorry for my previous post asking for part of the vin but forgot US vin's are different to Euro vin's so that wont help me in WIS (workshop information system).
Both the main command unit and the command center display are supplied by single 12v feeds. They do not work like the old car stereos where there are separate battery feed and ignition feed.
The system is normaly in a sleep mode and is woken up by either a CAN Bus message or a CAN/MOST bus wake line.
Please note If you have a BUS or BUS Termination problem even if everything is properly power you will still get nothing. BTW Look up "Bus Termination" on wiki to understand what it is.
Refer to attached diagrams (this is for the facelift 2010-> as shown in the above fuse layouts.)
Plugs are usually numbers on the back of each unit and pins are also numbers but you may need a magnifying glass to see some of them.
If your on a PC centre click mouse on the image thumbnail to get full size image in new tab.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Various Fiat
The decent VIM interfaces on the market a have plug and play system where there is no need to cut the car wiring. Remove the VIM module, restore the original setup in the car and check if everything works as intended. Then carry on with the job.

Thanks guys for your responses and diagrams. It seems that the problem in the comand unit itself not the wiring inside the car. I have installed another comand unit from another car and everything works, so I have to repair this unit or buy another one.

Bummer, that really sucks. Maby it was static discharge when the other unit was installed?? If the HDD has failed I would offer to clone the one in mine but it's a euro model and not sure if it would work in your unit being a US version.

Where did you get your other unit and did the dealer have to reprogram it?
