Cool Stuff I Accidentally Discovered Because I'm Too Lazy To Read The Manual

I suspect everyone knows this one already but how about long-press on the BACK button takes you immediately to the top-level menu in COMAND instead of multiple "back" steps?
Example - you're in the middle of putting in some specific address and then you decide to search through POI instead - just press and HOLD back and you'll go straight to the top level Nav menu.

With the optional Split View:
W221 S550 Split View - YouTube
This turned out to be one of my favorite options and also because it comes with a remote that let's you control the whole vehicle from any seat. You can even make a phone call from the wireless remote, adjust the seats, massage, radio, ac, etc..

To tell if a car has it, the "motorized" screen button is missing, and there is remote sensor window seen here.

If you point your key to the drivers side door(infrared) then keep the 'unlock' button pressed : all four windows will move down ( or if you have rear blinds they will come down).
Then point the key again ,push lock to close all four windows !

I found that out too ^^, I just wish you could do it by pointing anywhere at the car (like to lock/unlocl), instead of only the drivers door.

Mercedes introduces these cool features but then other auto makers just makes them better and thats not cool. Casing point, MB had active ventilated seats then Toyota (Lexus) GM and Nissan (Infiniti) added cooling coils which makes seat actually get cold. Rolling windows up/down with the key fob is good but in MB that feature is running on IR signal meaning you have to be less than 3 feet from the front door sensor and have the key fob pointing directly at the sensor. Other makes have the same feature but running on RF so you can do this within the same range as unlocking your car. Majority of cars have it but owners just don't know about it.
MB brought us keyless go then GM added remote start to that. MB had parktronic sensors then Toyota again made the Lexus LS460 park itself. The problem is that once MB introduces these, they don't improve on them until the next model year which will be seven years later.
Cool apps are fun to have but we have to buy a W222 to get them while Infiniti had weather apps loaded on their gps units in 2008. Come on MB, make it easy to add. I wish they could have some type of firmware update that can add feature not available at the time of production since the hardware already exist.
This is a generation of muscle cars and our engine is a very capable one. The fun to drive factor is there but why do I always find myself hitting the lower than usual speed limiter? Can you please raise it to 155 and not 130? After all these muscle cars easy go to 150 and without any mods. I'm just saying.

These are all really cool features. I've got a 2010 S350 on the way. Not sure how many of these options will be available, but looking forward!

These aren't "muscle cars". Lexus use the same passive ventilation system to cool their seats as Mercedes does. And slow down before you kill someone.

My 2010 has the hold feature. My wife has a new ml350 and I read about this feature.
After driving my 221 for three years I just found out I have the same feature.
I love it and now use it all the time.
"What a dumb butt", I said to myself.

Is there a trick to using this? If your foot is on the brake then you push down harder, does it hold? Or do you have to push the pedal down in a certain amount of time after you are done breaking?

I think it just takes an extra push on the pedal after the car has stopped. I just keep pressure on the brake and at the stop a little more pressure to activate HOLD.

Never knew what the 0/1 button did in the center console. Then I found out it was a fridge type thing mentioned earlier like the one in the glove box. Only works when AC is on. I am trying to delete an address book entry under "telephone". I only have one entry but don't know how STILL.

If you have the iPod adapter kit then buy one of these puppies and add Bluetooth Audio to your car for ~$45. Quality is decent. Powers on when your car starts and automatically reconnects to your phone.

I've discovered only two ways to make the system sound better.
1) Run your source into the Aux In jack, via an equalizer to smooth out the mids.
2) Replace the front midrange door speakers with Focal KRC 100 or Focal IFBMW-S and the front door tweeters with a set of Bose tweeters from a W220.
#1 is inexpensive and an easy install if you have an aux in jack in the glove box. You're limited to using a mobile device as your source.
#2 is expensive but fixes the system for all of your sources.
I just completed #2 and I have a lot of music remastered to 5.1 Dolby Digital on DVD, and it sounds terrific. On the stock system they were un-listenable.

Very close but no. The stock Harman/Kardon speakers have a triangular set of mounting holes. Most aftermarket speakers have a square pattern. The KRS100 have a square pattern. To do the install we Dremmeled off two of the mounting "ears" and then used the open mounting hole to attach a small strip of metal to hold the speaker in place. (The other holes lined up).
The Focal IFBMW-S are direct drop ins with an identical mounting hole configuration. The wiring connector would probably need to be removed and the speaker wired directly since the IFBMW-S are configured for a BMW's connectors.
Both are the same price. The KRS100 have a better tweeter and an adjustable cross over. The IFBMW-S are an easier install. Any decent shop should be able to handle the KRS100 install for you. Also don't pass up the opportunity while the door is opened up to apply a heavy layer of Hushmat, Dynamat or comparable deadening material. Otherwise you'll get rattles from the subwoofers.
Factory door interior. No sound deadening installed.
After speaker install, with Hushmat applied. Note crossover position in right bottom corner. Ultimately the plastic cover had to come off to make it fit.

The Cruise control stalk has two modes. A hard tug up or down moves the speed in 5 mph increments. A gentle (not a full excursion) one moves the speed in 1 mph increments.
If you use ITunes Radio for a custom streaming music source with stations you've created, you can access your stations thru COMAND by selecting MUSIC>PLAYLISTS. All of your saved stations will appear below the local playlists on the device. Works with the Tune2Air bluetooth audio adapter as well.
The 2010 S550 doesn't have heat. Maybe that was just mine this morning. It's going in to the shop.

The headlight washers... How do you get them to come on? You have to wash the windshield 5 times!! Yes, 5 times in a row, then, and only then, will the headlight washers pop up, which are worthless if you ask me. Older S classes had mini wiper blades that worked worlds better. Also, older benz's used to have a "button" to turn them on. Mercedes wants to cost cut and save 15 cents on putting a button in, now you have to hit 5 times before they work. Ranting.

Another COMAND find today:
You can navigate your music library using the telephone keypad (under the clamshell). For example, if you want to find an artist deep in the library but don't want to scroll through dozens of alphabetically sorted screens to get there:
On the keypad, Press the alphanumeric key (2-ABC) (3-DEF) and COMAND will display the letters associated with that key.
Press the key again and it will cycle through the three letters available on that key. Stop on the desired letter and wait two seconds. You'll immediately jump to that letter in your song, artist or album list. A huge time-saver for big libraries.
This works with the I device connected directly via Media Interface, or using the Tune2Air BT Audio Adapter.

Has anyone actually used the Parallel Park Assist on their 2010+. It's active whenever Parktronic or Distronic is on. At speeds under 15mph or so it's scanning cars parked along the right curb looking for a parallel space large enough for the car.
When it's scanning, you'll see a letter "P" in a box at the top of the speedo that's not normally there. The box will change to white and the "P" will be blue...kind of the universal symbol for a parking area to signal that a suitable space is identified.
When you get that symbol, stop and put the car in reverse. You'll have to hit the OK button once to clear a message about watching your surroundings. (You'll be positioned alongside the car in front of your space.)
Then the COMAND screen will display a very cool multi colored graphic with a birds eye view of the car and the parking space. There's a colored arc on the graphic that changes color and shows you the path the front wheels must take to get the car in the proper position. You just back slowly, following the colored paths on the display.
Once it has you guided in, put the car in D and use the display to center the car in the spot. I've only used it once. It's super rare, like a Unicorn.
